Moving from AZ to CA with off roster pistols

    Hello all,
A good friend of mine is moving from AZ to CALIFORNIA soon. He has a couple of off roster pistols. Is it legal for him to bring them to cali or does he have to sell them? I know this has been asked before. if yall can post link how to it would be appreciated.

Yes, just register them after he arrives.

This works if he's coming to California as a new resident. It only costs $19.00 for all of the firearms that you register at one time.

If he's coming to California as a returning resident, this advice can get him a felony charge.

Yea, I assumed a new resident. But hey this is not legal advice and we're not lawyers. I'd suggest an attorney if you wanna be 100% sure, not a forum with strangers.

That's a reasonable assumption to make, but this is California and there's just too many potential traps in our firearms laws (as Judge Benitez pointed out in his Duncan decision).

One big advantage of completing the "New Resident" report is that if you get caught CCW'ing without a permit, or carrying a loaded firearm, a first-time, unaggravated, offense is only a misdemeanor. If the weapons are unregistered, then a first-time offense is a felony.

                  Not true.

You can bring a whole bunch of "Standard Capacity" magazines into California:
                  1) You can bring in a "Standard Capacity" magazine for your 1911's.

                  2) You can bring in a "Standard Capacity" magazine for Glock models 26, 43, 27, 29, and 30.

                  4) You can bring in a "Standard Capacity" magazine for your Smith and Wesson MP Bodyguard.

                  5) You can bring in a "Standard Capacity" magazine for your Ruger LCP.

                  6) If I were inclined, I could stretch list list of "Standard Capacity" magazines that you could lawfully import into California to be a couple of pages long. "Standard Capacity" is a term that is meaningless in California law. It does have meaning as used by firearm manufacturers to indicate the designed capacity of their firearms and a great many of them have designed capacity of 10 rounds or less.
What will get you into trouble is bringing in a "Large-Capacity Magazine" as defined in Penal Code section 16740.

Two things that are illegal in California:

                      1. Threaded barrel on a pistol
                      2. A hand gun that shoots a shotgun shell, it is considered to be a short barreled shotgun.

The dreaded list applies to a new firearm being sold in California.

I moved out a couple of years ago, I don't know what the current state is for magazines in excess of 10 rounds. I imagine they are not legal.

I hope your friend is getting a HUGE pay raise to California. You might want to extend our condolences to him/her or whatever pronoun is appropriate.

18 USC 922(g) prohibits gun ownership by anyone "adjudicated as a mental defective...." Anyone moving from AZ to CA these days has to be considered suspect under the statute.

                            Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.
