I Have an AZ ID and property in AZ, while residing in CA Mainly. I have (off-roster) firearms (legally purchased) in AZ I'd like to bring to CA and add to my CA CCW. Is there a way? I was told I can do a "New Resident Report of Firearm" on CFARS, although after reading other threads I'm starting to have my doubts. Losing lease in AZ and want to start process soon.

AZ ID w/CA DL-Can I bring/register firearm into CA (off roster)

I also have a home in Arizona and I have purchased handguns there. After reading some of the same threads, I was convinced that my Arizona Guns would need to be left behind when I am in California. But I filled out DOJ BOF 4542 Firearm Registration Report online, printed and mailed the form along with the $19.00. DOJ cashed my check about three months later and I received notice that my handguns had been registered about six months after that. I included a letter stating that I reside in both states and wanted to carry my handguns legally in both states if possible. I also have an Arizona ID, an Arizona CCW, and a California CCW. It's PC 27585 -27585.
(a) Commencing January 1, 2015, a resident of this state shall not import into this state, bring into this state, or transport into this state, any firearm that the person purchased or otherwise obtained on or after January 1, 2015, from outside of this state
unless
the person first has that firearm delivered to a dealer in this state for delivery to that resident pursuant to the procedures set forth in Section 27540 and Article 1 (commencing with Section 26700) and Article 2 (commencing with Section 26800) of Chapter 2.
...
27590 ...
(c) If any of the following circumstances apply, a violation of this article shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170, or by a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment:
...
(7) A violation of Section 27585 involving a handgun.
Not an FFL question, but CA Law question, so moved.Last edited by Librarian; 12-04-2021, 1:59 AM.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

Librarian's PC links are on point. You can have a DL in one state and an ID in many. If you have ties to CA though, what you purchase as a resident out of state, cannot come back to CA unless it is rostered, non AW etc and must go through a dealer.Originally Posted By CTbuilder1 @ arfcom:

Need to ditch all ties to ca.So its not that simple to do yet many think with having a house in az as a second home then az id they can buy all they want and bring to ca then its fine.
I get in this debate with some on other boards i go on i just laugh and leave it at that and will get last if they get caught.Comment

From ATF website. "If a person maintains a home in two states and resides in both states for certain periods of the year, they may, during the period of time they actually reside in a particular state, purchase a firearm in that state. However, simply owning property in another state does not alone qualify the person to purchase a firearm in that state." [See 27 CFR 478.11, State of residence.]
As noted by others, the issue arises when a CA domicile tries to bring an off roster handgun or an AW back to CA or fails to use a FFL for other firearms.Comment

They can buy all they want, it is the bring to CA that is the problem. Under federal law a CA domicile who is residing in another state may be deemed a resident of that other state for the purpose of purchasing firearms.
