In my opinion, if you have time to assemble a kit... you are not in condition white- and that’s great

You also have time to leave the area.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
    (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Please refer to California Courts of Appeal decision in the case of People v Hale. A rather unique part of that decision is that if a portion of weapon is concealed (in this case the capped cylinder), then the weapon is concealed, even if the remainder of the weapon is in plain view.

        All good to know info.

I would never open carry anything here as it would become a news story on every channel. "Republican man exercises [
*protected* rights, gets state monitored gps tracker implanted and anklet attached to protect "the children" from witnessing such an event..."

I live in a very safe neighborhood, my question was about walking in the hills or large parks where wild animals and "such" are

Did you read my CCW Application Advice thread pinned at the top of the County CCW Info forum? See post #31 and see if you have Good Cause that falls under Dark Red, Light Red or Yellow.

Plus SCOTUS may take a Carry case next fall. If they do and if we win (between January and June 2022), big changes will come to the non-green counties in CA

Given we've established this would not be legal, any dealing with 2 or 4 legged problems on the trail I would simply defer to my more modern friends Elsie Underwood, or Wilson Underwood ;0)~

I've applied and was rejected before locally for CCW because there was no "immediate life threatening need"
I then told them while I was working the jewelry shows where people were being hit while at the gas station afterward, my family informed me that I will be walking heavy, the sheriff's deputy asked if I would like to apply again, and I asked, would it make any difference, and he said no.

I had photos of the sheriff with sheep and I still couldn't get one here in Contra Costa County.

                          Agreed,

So many times California officials say "gun bad" but when there is a break in at their house, the story is they used a gun to protect their own family...

Imagine a world where the lawmakers of California would be forced to follow the laws they subject everyone else to.....

Aside from legality, a capped percussion cylinder carried in a pocket seems both hazardous and unreliable. Caps can back off and a drop might set one or more off. It would be safer and more reliable to carry hammer down on an empty chamber. Carrying a loaded cylinder in a pocket probably adds more risk to you, your dog and others nearby than the gun would mitigate if it were legal to carry it that way.

We used to have something called "unloaded open carry," which was a workaround to carrying via the transportation laws, but that ship has sailed very long time ago. What you'd have in your pocket is a "concealed unloaded gun."
BP guns of all ages are not considered firearms. That's why you can mail them or sell them in parking lots with no FFL involvement. If they take fixed ammo however then they are firearms.
