The following are some personal thoughts and observations tendered in the hope that they are of benefit to someone.
It would be great if the registration topic could be broken down into some major topics, say, joint registration, for example. However that would be a lot of work and it's late in the game so probably not realistic.
We were of the mistaken assumption that the joint registration would auto populate all the weapon information. It does not.
When completing the joint application for the second person, using the gun store where the weapon was purchased is a mistake and the system will so notify you with an error message. Family member is the correct answer (at least under our circumstances).
The date the joint holder acquired the weapon might present an issue if it results in the joint holder acquiring the weapon when transfer was not permitted.
This is serious business -- treat it that way. Complete the application when you are fresh and alert. It is helpful to have the co-registrants application information as a reference.
Consider taking a screenshot of each and every completed page. Also take a screenshot of any messages.
Don't forget the upload button when uploading pictures. If you open the picture and forget to hit the upload button you will just sit there.
At least in the browser we used, activity messages were displayed in the following order: sending request, waiting for CFARS, and transmitting data.
On occasion we were stuck with the last image in sending request or waiting for CFARS mode for a lengthy period. If that condition exists for more than 5 minutes we found it best to quit the application and start over at a different time.
Wait a bit after each entry to see if CFARS will present a sub-screen.
Recognizing that there are different views, in our case there were some advantages to separate registrations for each weapon. One is that the process can be a bit exhausting so breaking it down is helpful. Also it would be awful to have entered a ton of information only to lose it towards the end of the process (if for example the system freezes, as ours did on several occasions).
Disclaimer: I am an old guy, I make mistakes and am not perfect. Many of you know much more about this than I do. However, it has been said that all of us together are smarter than any one of us alone and that is a point I believe to be well taken.
