Fire control parts, would be trigger, sear, and selector switch.

And lastly I'm assuming the lower receiver that you can you can put all of these things in ? Did I get it right ?

Annie, to stay safe from the Feds (and CA, which has laws roughly echoing the Feds), don't possess:
- FA fire control parts (for ARs, trigger/sear/FA disco(?)/selector);
- short bbl (unless you own a legit matching pistol or pistol receiver;
- if you have AR pistol *only* but no AR rifle/rifle rcvr, don't own a buttstock/receiver extension tube;

For ARs, don't have a lower with an extra 'happy hole' either.
(I have less familiarity w/AK receivers, but they seem to be a no-no with a 3rd hole near the trigger, which is prompting certain Saiga designs to be recalled - there's a very recent thread about this somewhere here.)

'Constructive possession' applies, generally speaking, to those items under your ownership/control - lack of assembly into the gun doesn't matter, nor does separation/distance (i.e, sear in your Maine vacation home with the gun in your CA home).

Thank you Bill. I was reading the whole OLL thingy, and so I was naturally curious just what I could have and still be legal. I'm not sure what a "happy hole is", so I will ask, what is it ? Anyway, reading some of the posts from the guys about building their own made me miss shooting one. I may be in the market soon and so I will probably have alot more questions.

Oh btw, what's an FA disco ? And where does it go ?

Oh, almost forgot, I saw a complete rifle at Turners when I bought my little SA XD, but the magazine well was all closed up. Could I just switch that lower for one with an open magazine well ?

Annie- The "happpy hole" is the whole which would allow a lower receiver to accept full auto fire control group.

FA disco would be full auto disconnecter.
