Not so, if a significant numbers of CG members will go to the polls and tell their friends and relatives who to vote for.

Biggest LEO scandal in LA since the 80's. Last I heard 18 of his deputies are arrested and indicted...in my humble opinion it is impossible for him not to have known what was going on. In particular the incident in which the Austrian consul's wife was unlawfully arrested while visiting an Austrian national in jail (she was detained despite her diplomatic immunity) that's not something that he can claim he had no knowledge about. I am sure the Austrian consulate filed complaints with Baca's office as well as with the US State Department so chances Baca would not have known anything about this are nil.

      That being said:
Baca is running for reelection next year. Depending on what what the FBI ongoing investigation will dug up, he may not even be able to hold on to his seat that long. I believe this would be a golden opportunity for the CG community to identify and support a potential candidate who is sympathetic to our cause to run for election and replace that corrupt bastage. Anyone knows a Second Amendment-friendly Hispanic sheriff deputy?
LOL you mean a 2A friendly cop with enough seniority, political savvy and support along with the war chest to run for that office? AND get elected in the RABIDLY anti-gun city of LA. Sure..... as soon as they build one I'll let you know.

I don't see that any of these fellows will turn LTC/CCW policy in L.A. County into de facto shall issue:

          1. Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca
          2. Former LASD Commander Bob Olmsted
          3. Current LASD Sheriff Lee Baca's former number two man, Paul Tanaka
          4. Retired LASD Lieutenant Patrick Gomez
          5. LAPD's Lou Vince was a Reserve Deputy for LASD for four years before joining LAPD.

Just more of the same no matter who wins the election on 06/03/14.

I keep hoping but as Tarn has pointed out, each of these candidates have been vetted on their ccw opinion. Every single one had the samed tired response that they are strong supporters of the 2nd A. Without exception that translated into ccw IF you had a "legitimate" reason. Let's see what Bob Olmsted's response to my email will be before we rush to judgment.

Back in September, Olmsted replied to my Facebook inquiry on CCW with this:

"I am pro CCW and a position paper will come out soon. We are still setting up the campaign and doing some critical fundraising and I will publish, on the web site, all my position papers in the near future."

Looking forward to his reply to tankarian as well, but his history as a whistleblower on the jail abuse issue is very encouraging to me.

Seems like the door is wide open for someone new.

It looks like Bob Olmstead is running for Sheriff in the 2014 election against them.
Here's a link with some info on him, anyone know his 2A position?

Tanaka already retired. He will be indicted as soon as Thompson rolls over on him.

Why don't we see the names of the 18 deputies listed in any of these articles? The media regularly lists the names of "suspects", but doesn't list the names of 18 "arrested and indicted" persons?

I admit that my memory isn't what it used to be, but that was the last impression I had from contacts with Bob Olmstead regarding his stance on CCW issuance. I hope I'm wrong and he proves to be pro-CCW. If he is, I'd certainly back him with all my effort.

No worries. If Baca falls on his sword, some other anti-2A statist will be more than happy to take his place, and L.A. county voters will be more than happy to elect him.

Bob Olmstead looks to be our best candidate. This is SO important, not only for the county of Los Angeles, but for the entire STATE of CA.

We need to get EVERY Calgunner to talk to every single one of their friends, family and co-workers about voting for the right guy.

There is not a lot of voter education about the sheriff - this could be used to our advantage to get a different, pro 2A candidate elected.
