On the contrary; the excess of electronics in most contemporary cars make them maintenance nightmares. Sure, they work pretty seamlessly for the first 4-5 years, but as time, age & wear piles up, electronics are small, expensive parts that break easily and become costly to the point of being impossible to repair / replace as they become obsolete.

    Here's the quintessential example.

As someone who uses and has used computers, cinema cameras, video cameras, editing software, photo editing software in my career for decades, I do not want ANY electronics anywhere near my guns. I have experienced more bricking, defects, crashes, faulty programming, bugs and problems with supposedly "really reliable" electronics for most of my life.

I can't tell you how many times I have had engineers, programmers and tech support tell me, "wow, it's not supposed to that. That's impossible, it couldn't have done that. We have never experienced anything like that before" and my favorite, "Wow, we should hire you to debug and test these things, this has never occurred with millions of units sold and hundreds of thousands of users".

cool, now everyone will know you're a gun owner or carrying once they see your watch.

Might as well have the star of David on it.

The lifespan of a modern electronic device? 6 years?

Lifetime of a modern firearm? Well, I am using 90 year old rifles with full power modern powder and getting great results.

I'm sure RFID can be jammed too, but in any case who's going to wear an RFID watch at all times? The RFID can also be used to find out which homes have firearms.

If it can be coded - it can be uncoded.

I am torn between wanting some impediment set up to prevent this monstrosity from being imported into the states, thus establish a monopoly in NJ and eroding self-defense, and simply adding a requirement that Secret Service and security for politicians only carry said guns...

I'm all for it if you remove the law enforcement exemption...either we're equal or we're not...Oh, wait...we want we want our peace officers (and ourselves) to have reliable tools of the trade...nevermind...

ummmm SB 293 ring a bell?

SB 293, authored by Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord, would ban all guns without owner-authorized technology from retail sale in California 18 months after the state attorney general deems such technology to be readily available.

While it may be possible to implement this, and it might actually be cool as an option some time down the road when it's fully "star wars" and reliable...the idea of mandating this for "safety" is re-donkulous.

                        A) Unreliable for at least several generations of the tech. Unreliability in a self defense weapon is a deal breaker. How many guns would you avoid carrying because it was finicky about ammo, or was in any way unreliable?

                        B) only interesting to those that have no intention of doing anything nefarious.

                        C) hacking or disabling will always be available about 30 seconds after release or upgrade.

                        D) if it's not equally applied to state actors, its outrageous infringement.

Unfortunately, as a tool to infringe, disarm, and burden the law-aibing, it's awesome. I would expect our "leaders" to champion this relentlessly.

No. Just no. You allow this, and the next generation will include a kill switch to allow law enforcement to disable a gun. NO.

If it happens, come to my house, I'll defeat the system and disable it permanently.

None of this should be mandated, but if I CHOOSE to own a gun that can clear its own jams, clean itself, determine failures before they occur etc I should be able to choose that.

Biometrics? What happens on a cold day and you're wearing gloves? What happens if you are shot first and can't shoot back because you have your own blood on your hands and the scanner cant read your print? What happens if you accidentally drop your weapon and when you pick it up to defend yourself the glass is scratched or damaged? scuff up or damage your fingerprint while in a defensive fight? We use biometric scanners at my job...they last about 3 years and then need to be replaced... This is not a defensive weapon...it's a range toy.
