EXACTLY.
There is a great deal of training one can do that would be of great value if you should ever be called into militia service - and without running afoul of the law. Much of this preparation would be of value in other circumstances as well.
OR
Join the state military reserve.
OR
Move to AZ where the state has established an organized militia separate from the national guard that is not subject to federalization. Several other state are considering this as well.Last edited by vincewarde; 10-04-2013, 2:13 PM.Comment

Vince has it right except that suggestion #2 and #3 are the same.
California has a State Military Reserve, and we helped start the AZ version when one of our soldiers relocated there. Either way you'd be part of the organized militia under the Governor's control.

Welcome aboard Joe! I think you'll find most all of us are NRA members (Life of Duty member here).
Unfortunately in this state, unlike the Great State of Texas, there is a real belief we need all the help we can get. I guess it's true that desperate times calls for desperate measures as some of these posts indicate.
Regards!

The funny (maybe not so funny thing about militia) If the poop did hit the fan, and the various levels of gov were down, it would probably be too late to even think about a militia. It might be every family for themselves. A militia might be handy to maintain some sort of order and help those in need.
But as others brought up, various legal obstacles prevent it from blossoming.Comment

How about just "Calgunners Alliance"?Comment

Just call it a DEN (Domestic Emergency Network)
I was thinking about doing something like that here in the Bay Area.
Bay Area DEN. Has a good ring to it.
Have a main focus in community awareness, urban prepping, medical/trauma education. But of course everyone involved would be very enthusiastic about firearms and tactics.Comment

Hrm good question.
A deft prosecutor could logically make the following argument: Assuming they are the unorganized militia, they seem to be organized by working together (they hold drills, etc). They also refer to themselves as an organization on their own website. Thus, this makes them a paramilitary group because they practice with weapons (marksmanship and light infantry drills it says on their website) and therefore subject to PC 11460. They specifically disavow any reporting to the Governor or Congress or the President, this means they cannot be part of the organized militia. This is of course the purpose of 11460, to avoid groups not reporting to any duly elected official.
They clearly state they are not bigots, or racists, and will accept everyone. I think this is to avoid the history of paramilitary organizations in California such as AN, California Rangers etc.
So I really don't know if they are illegal or not to be honest. I think they should be able to do what they want as long as they don't harm anyone or plan violent overthrow of our duly elected government.Last edited by rootuser; 10-05-2013, 3:10 AM.Comment
