Someone PLEASE break it down in......

"Laymen" Terms for Me? I have been trying to stay up to date with all these damn Anti-Gun Bill's, that certain Dumb Azz Politicians are trying to pass through.
I have been getting the Normal Email Alerts from my NRA and in one message I see a Major Victory(that being Feinstein's Bill was shot Down and so was the Manchin-Toomey-Schumer Deal), But then I hear about a Crap load More and I keep getting different, Conflicting Intel!!!
Can someone Please enlighten me as to what has Passed, and or were to go to view such info?
    Thanks

Federally we are good. CA laws are steamrolling right along.

      Nothing has passed.

Most of the really bad stuff in the CA senate has been approved by the Public Safety committee, and is moving to the appropriations committee. The actual "grab" (a law which would have repealed existing 'grandfathering') was changed to something unrelated.

IF everything which came through the PS committee were to pass, any semi-auto rifle which uses a detachable magazine would be re-classified as an assault weapon. That includes 22lr rifles. The language is such that 'fixed' magazines in excess of 10 rounds are also assault weapon features. Effectively this makes every 22 semi-auto rifle into an assault weapon. Be advised that under existing law minors may not possess (i.e. cannot even HANDLE) assault weapons so if your kid has a 10/22 you'll have to take it away and never let them shoot it again.

There is also language which will require you to register any detachable magazine rifle that you own (regardless of purchase date or action type) although bolt/pump/lever guns are not re-classified as AWs, this registration is not related to the status of these arms as AWs.

The two above gems are courtesy of SB 374, that's the biggie...

BUT the next least favorite (on my list anyway) is SB 396, this one makes any magazine BODY which is large enough to hold more than 10 rounds into a large cap by definition (i.e. even if it has a mag block it is still considered a hi-cap). In order to prevent existing mag block owners from becoming ACTUAL standard-cap owners, this one will make POSSESSION of a "large capacity magazine" into a crime...

There are other bills in the pipeline, but these are the two doozies in my opinion... they will be moved into the appropriations committee and then to the floor of the CA senate, where they must be voted on and passed prior to May 31 so that they can be moved into the Assembly. If passed there they'll go to Brown in the September timeframe.

As has been said, in the Federal Legislature very little has happened as the Gun Control efforts in the Senate are largely DOA.

        Another bad one

Senate Bill 53 (DeLeon) requires persons to buy an annual ammunition purchase permit, requires the registration and thumbprint of the purchaser for each ammunition purchase, and bans online and mail order sales of ammunition to Californians.

IIRC these are some proposed pieces of legislation:

          1) Require a yearly ammo license to purchase
          2) Tax increase on ammo
          3) Ban rebuild kits
          4) Ban bullet buttons - A lot of different theories, it sounds like they will open AW registration and bullet button guns will be added to the registry as pre-bans but you still need BBs on guns.
          5) Registered AWs will be banned from possession - If passed I suppose they'll send letter to AW owners telling them to turn in their AWs.

I am pretty sure there are more.
