Not only has Obama and his cadre of lunatics created a massive, nationwide rush to purchase guns, but an additional side effect will be to dissuade those with mental health issues to avoid treatment for fear of government intrusion into personal medical records. Fools!
Got PTSD? Had counseling for marital problems? Depression? Treatment for anxiety that makes you avoid dental treatment? I could go on with a list of many others that people seek professional help for that are ultimately resolved by the patient themselves or time. We are seeing a freight train...

The Anti Gunners Want Us Gun Owners To Be Unfit

Good point, the problem is that if you scream 'nut control' the gun haters will want to make everyone who owns a gun a nut and unfit to own a firearm so they can take them away. And this appears to be exactly what is happening.

But the other problem is that many gun owners/2A supporters do not know the difference between someone who has mild issues coping with life and those who are insane. This is because they may not have been educated on the subject or dealt with someone who needed some counseling for a period of time. So the importance of rejecting medical records just being added in full to the background check data base is lost on them.

The NRA and our allies need to understand the importance of keeping the medical records out of the background check DB. There needs to be a mechanism for adding only those who are truly sick to the DB and not those who are for all intents and purposes normal.

The article claiming that Manchin is wowing guests on his "megayacht" is deliberately misleading because it implies huge amounts of money are involved. Owning a 1/3 share of a $280k yacht does not a baller make, and in fact is pretty common in the boating world.
Sorry, I was just messing with you. I didn't intend to rile you up.

That aside, I thank you for your contributions to the discussion.

Ted Nugent was on CNN tonight and tried to push back on the idea of some arbitrary government "nut job" declaring someone mentally ill without due process.

he did agree with the interviewer at the end that if there were multiple indicators from doctors and relatives, he would support the decision to remove 2A rights for that person.

And that seems reasonable to me. I can always count on Ted!

The questions is: WHO DECIDES? If you simply add medical records to the DB, who decides if there are indications that the person is dangerous? The Government bureaucrat? A judge? No it should be a professional, a psychiatrist.

If family members and a psychiatrist decide the guy is "off hook" then a flag should be put in the DB. Otherwise, you have government idiots making arbitrary decisions.

The problem is that the LEFTYs destroyed the mental health system in the US in the name of "civil liberties". And what happened is that many of the truly borderline nuts that used to be locked up or otherwise controlled were put on the streets. And the mechanisms that were in place to control these people were dismantled.

THAT IS WHY THE MOM OF THE SANDY HOOK SHOOTER COULDN'T GET HER SON COMMITTED, BECAUSE IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DO SO ANYMORE UNLESS SHE COULD HAVE PROVED THAT HE WAS A DANGER TO HIMSELF OR OTHERS. AND THIS IS A HIGH BAR.

This is truly a problem, but putting law abiding gun owners medical records in a DB is stupid.

In many ways I truly wish this bill was killed and off our radar so we can focus on other battles such as what we are facing here in Kaliforniastan. Now looking at the list of Republicans that defected today, some are true RHINOS and lack any testicular fortitude (John McCain), however many who did defect have no intention and never will vote in the affirmative for this bill, regardless of it's final incarnation.

Think chess, not checkers. I hope and have some reason to believe, the Republicans may have finally gotten smart and are playing for the big win here...defeat gun control, force Senators to go on the record with their vote for the actual bill placing many in a bind with constituents, especially Senators facing re-election next year, which will lead to the final objective of regaining control of the Senate in 2014. Checkmate Obamalamadingdong if the Republicans control both houses of Congress your final two years in office.

You see what Biden was doing today on MORNING JOE? Laying the groundwork that there was a "new type" of gun owner -- who didn't want to hunt of protect his family -- just liked the way an AR 15 "felt" in his hands. See? He means they are crazy. See how quickly the press will begin to formulate a theory that anyone who wants and "assault weapon" is by definition too crazy to won one. These people will NOT give up...

                    This.
