My understanding is that CA NRA staff quietly takes CA legislators and staffers of all stripes out to gov't firing ranges in conjunction with Assy/Senate Sporting Caucus members. Even anti friends of these legislators are out there having fun, and the NRA tries not to politicize it so much so it becomes polarized and nongunnies would avoid attending.

I can't tell you the number of times I've heard "I've never touched a gun and I hope I never do but...."

... why don't we fix that ignorance? Or at least make the offer (very) publicly? Offer to teach people, at the very least, it would give us the intellectual high ground, which would REALLY annoy them.
Privately I think your plan would work....and also backfire. More on that in a moment.

Publicly it wouldn't fly. You'd have better luck getting Iranian President Ahadmenadjad to attend a Bar mitzvah. The NRA has stood in the way of the anti's agenda long enough that no public reconciliation is possible between the two camps.

As to educating gun grabbers in private, here's why I think it would backfire. Some of these gun grabbing nitwits do our dirty work for us every time they stand in front of a camera. Observe "shoulder thingy that goes up". Even die hard anti-gun voters can't rally behind a moron who doesn't know their subject matter.

Yet, we lose this advantage by educating "the enemy" as it were. Imagine if our opposition knew everything the membership of Calguns did about guns , and their functions and capabilities. We'd be facing a new generation of gun control laws written very deviously; without going into OPSEC territory, I think all of us can conceive of ways one can enact gun control laws which all but neuter our ability to shoot and defend ourselves without inherently affecting our ability to physically own firearms. The less they know about the subject matter with which they're trying to ban, the better it is for us.
The more prohibitions you have, the less virtuous people will be.
The more subsidies you have, the less self reliant people will be.

Some do and are here on Calguns.

Remember that unfortunately guns are perceived, correctly or otherwise, as being tied to the 'relgiious right' (certainly in voter perception skew).

And I can easily see why an LGBT person would not vote for someone in a party that - at least in CA - has done nothing but 'hate on' them - and with other GOP party members in other areas of the country actively talking about killing them. (Yes, it's on video and made the news.)

And sadly there are quite a few Calgunners here that have utter hatred for LGBT or who don't want to seem them enjoy a full suite of civil rights.
