It depends on which agency is doing the investigation. I've worked for both a Sheriff's Dept and a Police Dept. It was two different worlds.

Can you clarify on Mims? All the guys I know have gotten there's under a year. There are a lot of people applying is the reason. I have a buddy applying with the city instead because it is faster, it seems like they have to jump through more hoops to get it than with the sheriff's office. Under Pierce you had to have a handgun that was on the state roster, under mims it just has to be registered to you or a spouse, and there are no restrictions other than the common no school no courthouse stuff.

I would like to reiterate what I have stated before in defense of departments that do not seem to comply with the time requirments.

Sheriff Mimms seems to be a pretty stand up person. She is one of the Sheriff's that has gone on record that she nor her department will enforce any new gun restrictions. Fresno S.O. is considered a shall issue department.

I have talked to Sheriff's and especially the department that issues my LTC. Our government at all levels are under a financial crunch with minimal resources. LTC is typically a colateral duty. most departments seem to only assign ONE person to handling LTC's requests and that person typically have more important police work to do, such as investigating murders, thefts etc.

for me I did not have any issues with the S.O. they took 87 days to get back to me, but in the end I received my LTC, the officer working my request was a great guy and explained to me how overwhelmed they were.

I have way more tasking at my job than I can handle, it seems to becoming the norm. At some point you have to begin to focus on what is important and let the things that are less important fall off the plate. And to be honest I personally feel an officer trying to investigate a murder and who did it is more important than me getting my license to carry.

I know other people dont agree with that, they think issuing LTC should be a high priority and the departments better dam well issue them in a timely manner, but be real and be serious, for some departments the overwhelming request for LTC is so much of a burden on limited resources I think we need to cut departments a little slack.

If you have departments that are identified as non issue departments and they just like jerking people around, fine, drag them over hot coals, but departments that have come out and have proven to be shall issue, and have proven so, we just need to take their word at face value that they are doing the best they can.

I hate watching people criticize and berate departments and people that are doing the best they can for us with the resources they have. it is almost embarrasing.
        1 Peter 3:15

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect

        2 Corinthians 3:3
You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
