Bear or pepper spray in school

My wife is a school teacher.
She has also taught martial arts and self defense over the years, and in the last couple years has really enjoyed getting into shooting.

Lately she has been thinking about her room and the challenges it presents in the event of an attacker coming on campus. She is in a modular building with a single door and a large window on the same wall as the door. There are no other exits, or windows at a height suitable for exit.

With these tactical limitations in mind, she really wishes she was able to have something to protect herself and her students in her classroom. Clearly a firearm is out of the question, but she was thinking about getting a can of bear spray. Is anybody aware of the laws surrounding having something like bear spray or pepper spray on school grounds in California?

Bear spray can kill a person and it will not always stop bears.

            Links?

Bear spray stops bears more often than bullets.
Gas masks worn by the perp could be an issue.

Not a good idea, bear spray is a registered pesticide and excluded from the law that allows you to use "tear gas" in self-defense. Pepper spray (a "tear gas" covered by the law) would be a better choice unless her employment contract or school's policies say she can't bring it to school.

Make sure it is an aerosol can (not a Pepper Blaster) and that the can contains 2.5 Oz or less. I like the stream versions (more precise and longer range) vs. the fog versions, but I mainly carry mine so as to have a non-lethal alternative to Mr. Glock when dealing with aggressive dogs in our neighborhood. A LEO could probably better advise on which is better for her intended use.

                      From the Canadian Article
" there is no direct medical proof that the spray itself actually causes death. He believes the problems stem more from pre-existing conditions, such as asthma."

                      ---

Bear Spray is REQUIRED of Canadian Hikers in Grizzly territory in some parks. You can spray out to 30 yards with it. Less concern about "overpenetration" than a bullet.

Looks like bear spray is good to go in San Francisco.

The LEO version used on inmates is devistatingly effective. Easy to use and easy to train with. Most women or non firearm teacher types wouldn't hesitate to pepper spray compared to actually shoot a firearm. It's used often where I work and it puts you on the ground dry heaving and blind in seconds even with a poor shot.

Because "bear spray" is an economic posion (pesticide), technically, it is considered a deadly weapon when used aganist humans.
