Thank you for sharing your opposition to Senate Bill 249 (Yee) regarding assault weapons. I am very pleased to be able to inform you that this bill was not allowed out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee, and, therefore, will not be enacted into law.
This bill would have changed the definition of detachable magazines in such a way as to make legally owned assault weapons in California illegal. Under SB 249, it would have been necessary to surrender guns with the prohibited features to law enforcement, sell them out of state, or have expensive and unwanted modifications made to legally keep them.
Although this unconstitutional bill has been killed, please stay vigilant. You and I both know the gun grabbers will not stop, and we can expect to see more bills of this nature pop up during the next legislative session.
Again, thanks for contacting me. I will continue to stand on the side of the Second Amendment and protecting our freedoms.
Sincerely,
Dan Logue
Assemblyman, 3rd District
