    India women gun up

Guns are increasingly popular with well-off Indian women who feel that they should be able to defend themselves against crime

"I don't have faith in the police to protect me. There are so many attacks on women these days. It's everybody's right to defend themselves"

Wow. I'm of Indian ethnicity and I didn't even know all these facts. My father and his family are from the Punjab state too. Good for them.

IAS, I keep saying that the right is an international right, because it's God-Given.

        This is another good quote:

"Why should I be dependent on someone else, even my husband or the police, for my own safety? I should be independent," she said. "Imagine all the problems and mishaps which could be avoided if women could defend themselves properly.

Now substitute spouce for husband and people for women for how it really should be here and there.
        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

It annoyed me that the article said the following.

The trend is part of a broader growth of gun culture in the land once known for the non-violent principles of Mahatma Gandhi.
I guess the implication is that people who arm themselves are violent.

Far from it, they are defending themselves from violence.

A distinction that newspapers on both sides of the drink can't seem to make.

Well a Brit wrote the article,, and they are convinced that turning themselves into defenceless sheep will keep them safe. Unfortunately the criminals in the UK didnt get the memo.

Indian women understand the concept of personal security better than almost all of our elected officials.

That is what me mean by universal rights; everyone wants them and deserves them even if they are deemed illegal by local laws. I wrote about this a few days ago with links to UK Guardian and International Business Times articles.

Interesting how victims of violence, like Susanna Gratia, can cut to the chase with simple, honest talk.
