    Procedural CCW Question

I'm curious of how others would proceed under certain condition

    Situation
you are carrying, having no intention of going to a bar or anything that you would have otherwise thought you may not be able to carry.
now, you enter a place, then after a secondary entry (that you cannot see what the funnel point is caused by) entry you are suddenly presented with a metal detector, or everyone is being wanded. being not able to see the metal detector or security prior to being literally between them.

    what do you do?

It just seems kind of obvious to me to turn around at such a point.
the best I could come up with was, suggesting I need to go put my knife in my car.

Its a private business the most they can do is ask you to leave or go put it in the car. I have been to bars with pat downs and metal detectors, I tell them I have a knife before they find it and they say to just go put it in the car.
As a side note, if it is legal to carry there I would ask them what they are looking for, IE if they have no signs and it would otherwise be legal to carry there. If they tell me no weapons I would say thanks and I will take my business elsewhere.

I dont particularly agree with the "If they dont allow weapons, i take my business elsewhere" in this case, because it IS being applied to everyone, meaning, everyone is going through the detector or wand, so, I feel that the criminals are not carrying either. No diff than an airport, everyone is subject to the metal detector.

my concern is startling them unnecessarily or bringing attention to myself.

it does seem having the knife is the best bet for 'redirection'

there are simply so many time, you just dont know when 'screening' is going to occur
we always see the questions as to
'can you ccw at xyz sports stadium', 'johnny z concert', 'san diego zoo' 'garlic festival' or whatever, sometimes you just dont know, and wont really know till you find yourself faced with a metal detector

Usually when I come upon an unexpected search, I'll say I have to go put my pocketknife in the car. If it's someplace that's going to ask for ID or money, I'll say I left my wallet in the car.

They once had a drug test at work. I was first in line. I had no idea they were going to have me empty my pockets on the table in break room in front of everybody. I said, "I'm not going to just leave my wallet sitting out here on the table for someone to steal! I'm going to lock it up in my car." They tried to assure me it was safe, and I walked out with an air of indignation. My coworkers were all snickering because they knew the real reason I waked out.

A couple times I've actually wandered into a sterile area by mistake, not knowing they had security and without seeing any signs posting a gun-free zone.

Once was at the Virginia State Assembly building. I wasn't carrying, except for a pocketknife. I went in, wandered around the place for a half hour or so, then walked up behind a metal detector. I asked security about it. They asked where I came in. I told them which door, and I asked if they wanted me to go through the metal detector. She looked at another guard, and they shrugged and looked at each other. I said, "I should be fine, I left my gun in the car." She said, "you've already been all over the building, go ahead."

Another time was at a call center in FL years ago. I was escorted in a back entrance and worked several hours. Went looking for a restroom and walked up behind the armed security, metal detector, and x-ray machine. I walked back in, found the restroom and continued working.

seems having a knife covers things pretty good

If you are carrying (a firearm), you might also want to decide whether you really want to leave it in the car.

I would not leave mine in my car here, since people break into and steal cars here routinely...

It sounds like the 'I left my wallet in the car' would work in every situation except the airport (which I have seen signs at airports saying that once in line for the detectors, you are not allowed to step out of line... which may not even be enforced).
Even if you don't plan on returning to the venue once you realize they require a screening.

Yes but you should have the common sense to know not to carry at an airport. I get why people carry and I'm hoping to one day be one of them, but there are NOOOOO airports that allow you to carry. You should never come into a situation where you "forget" airports don't allow carrying.
