    Lets fix our gun laws.

Hello everyone on calguns. My name is Steven. I am a 19 year old man who has loved the shooting sports since he learned to shoot at age 8. However, I as many of you have, learned to dread this state for its restriction of our 2nd amendment rights and overall opinion of gun ownership. I for one envy our neighbor states residents for the freedoms they're states grant them for gun ownership and I am planning to do something about it. (Legally of course)

Our President and several Senators and Representatives have shown a willingness to listen to their people, and I would love to start some petitions to re-peal many of our states gun laws. I want to start with our states Misguided Hi-capacity magazine restriction, and would love help getting a petition started and circulated to gun shops, ranges, stores, and web pages across our state and the rest of the web. I cannot do this alone, and any help I can get from the cal-guns community will be appreciated by not only me, but all of the citizens who would love to change the states gun laws

Let’s get our gun rights back guys! We can do it, let’s Get a change we want to see happen!

Thanks man, I figured from what I have read from the other memebers, If I wanted to change some legislature involving guns, this would be a good place to start

Hi, fatsteve - welcome to Calguns.

        Umm.

I don't quite know how to say this, but what you suggest is pretty unlikely to persuade the California Legislature as it is currently constituted.

For the rest of you wolves, I call upon you to find your better natures and be as encouraging and positive and welcoming to our new member as possibly you can. And if you can't say anything nice ...

I'd be lying to both of us if I said I had full confidence this will work, but The more people who send in pettions and call there congressman, the more likely they are to do something. And hey, its better than sitting and dealing with it, and I think we would all be happy to see some of these laws fade away into history as a misguided attempt to save people from themselves.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you here.

On the issue of firearms and Second Amendment rights, our state legislature, our U.S. Senators, and the President are absolutely immovable. (Some of our federal Representatives are pretty good though.) Boxer, Feinstein, and a lot of the state legislature have already made up their minds. The more courteous ones will admit that, when asked, and the slimier ones will say something about "respecting our hunting traditions." They will never vote to affirm our rights.

Everyone here wants the same thing you do, and we have a plan to make it happen. However, it doesn't involve the legislature, at least not in the current stages of the plan. Hang out here, read the Calguns Foundation Wiki, and check out the Calguns Foundation's main page to find out what the plan is and how you can help.

Welcome to the Second Amendment arm of the civil rights movement. You'll fit right in.

Edit: Writing, e-mailing, and calling legislators DOES HELP, though. Keep doing it. Just be aware that it won't come close to working if that's all we do, and for that reason, we're doing a lot of other things.

Most definatley, they dont seem to keen on gun ownership, but they do like getting elected. And if enough people seem cross about something that could effect that, theres hope. And Even though Obama may npot be a gun person, he does seem to listen to pettions, look at the one He responded to that was in protest of SOPA. Also, lets remeber alot of these things got put into place before the internet. I think everyone has atleast herd of the scandal where a pentagon offical claimed GLOCKs were un detectable on metal detectors, and I remeber a rant that either pelosi or finestine had about the AK-47 not needing to be aimed. How does this relate to the internet? Well, its easier to drag there name throught the mud, and bring up the fact they are stone cold lying to push there agenda through, so we do have technology to our advantage here.

                I know I would, I really would.

But we live in the mother of all nanny states. They won't give up their infringements without a fight.

                Good luck though.

Don't forget to read, read, read; especially in this forum. Learning what others do,
and how you can help is just as important as finding your own initiatives.
                    Glad you're aboard.

welcome! Definitely take about a week to go through the work of calguns foundation, maybe read gun fight by adam winkler, make a sandwich, and see if you still want to do a big petition.

having said that, it won't hurt, especially if you keep it simple like "I want California to go shall issue concealed carry". Or "the right to bear arms doesn't stop at my front door". Get a bunch of signatures and send it to Darrel Steinberg and Kevin DeLeon, haha.
just happy to be here. I like talking about better ways to protect ourselves.

Welcome! You could spend months here, reading through threads, educating yourself about the state of things. Chances are, if you think of something, it has been tried and is being done on an ongoing basis. But don't let that dissuade you from brainstorming. New eyes are essential for leaving no stone unturned in the search for fixes.

After a while, you'll begin to understand that we are in this for the long haul, and that victories are usually incremental and stem from a disciplined, smart, methodical and strategic approach.

FYI, Calguns (the site), and Calguns (the legal foundation) are two separate entities that function together for common goals. Make sure you check out the foundation's site as well for updates on the legal fights.

The Second Amendment is the one right that is so fundamental that the inability to exercise it, should the need arise, would render all other rights null and void. Dead people have no rights.

Been there, tried that. BUT welcome youngster!! IF you dont mind a suggestion, rather that start with trying to with changing the hi cap restriction laws, I would recommend you start with the AR features ban.
Laws restricting hi cap mags can be rationalized and justified. Laws pertaining to the evil AR features, muzzle brake, pistol grip etc. cannot be, and are only on the books to harass gun owners.
Either way, best wishes and keep us posted on what "we" can do to help!

Also a young shooter here 21. I welcome you sir. I was trying with friends to draft up a new law that would get us our rights back with a licensing system. Not a felon? Mental health in great shape? Know about basic gun safety? Then you would be able to apply to get a license. The preposed card would allow you to carry a concealed handgun or carry in anyway you see fit. It would also exempt you from school zones. Now here is the real icing on the cake, you would be able to own assault weapons. All of your information would go to the ATF and you would have to register them. Both sides win. We do away with the roster, we get our rights back and we get appease the liberals with reasonable gun control. I hate it but a compromise has to be reached! It will take too long for everyone to die off.
