You get a free 10k firearms insurance, but you have to sign up for it. I have to call them and ask for it. This is a bonus for me.
I joined, because I want to help out the cause.

The others have covered the reasons well.

I got into firearms late in life (age 45). I was signing up for the NRA, year by year. Finally I noticed that I was not just enjoying shooting; I was learning so much about my rights, and the history of our Nation. Because of this, I knew this wasn't a short term hobby and signed up as a life member (discounted to $600).

So, if you are hooked, like me, please sign up as a life member.
      Please, join the NRA.

Well, not everyone. Some forum members are incapable of respect. You know the ones...

I would say MOST of the members here.

The benefits is knowing you "did your part" in protecting and preserving the RKBA with the nations largest 2A organization with lots of clout in D.C.

Forget about the trinkets. The main benefit is you permanently count as a member which is the main source of power of a political organization.

If all "supporters" were members and all members didn't go on again off again with their membership, we would be so influential that Bradies would wet their panties.

I got my life membership at a discount, but the next level will be at the full price. Once you count, the next step is to provide financial support. This goes for any organization, not just NRA.

Yup. If you're worried about the free hat or lapel pin, you're looking at the wrong issue.

As I put it, if the NRA had the actual membership that reflected what people state (many many gunnies say they are NRA members and are not - lazy? cheap?) we'd have around 11 million membrers. At that point, ATF comes to your house with CLP refills and offers to wax your gunsafe.

Oh I signed up as a Life Member years ago, and I got a cool life member leather jacket.
Thanks for all the great replies, I was just wondering if I was missing something, I hope that they come back to Reno for the annual convention-We lifers get in free.

I get the forms for voting so I always vote for Ted.

I'm not complaining - though they do seem to not flood me with request for money, my guess is they know how broke I am ;-)

There must be more to it, for me the main benny is ( besides the obvious, putting my hard earned money where my mouth is & helping out gun rights) the mag subscription plus I have a cool life member NRA card, being as broke as I am right now people sometimes don't believe me.

I would like to get other people to be life members, what can I tell them is in it for them?
You are better off convincing People of the benefits of ANY NRA membership class than limiting it to one.

The main advantage of lifetime is that eventually you save money on the deal by giving more now, and won't be pestered each year with renewal tactics.

Benefits are many, besides the obvious gun rights support, there are lots of Companies that give you a discount on products and services.

Then there is the free insurances etc.

It's a great deal at any level of membership. If I had more cash I would probably do the lifetime thing, but it wouldn't stop me from donating now and then via buying NRA products and services to keep the cash flowing.

Without question, the most important benefit to you as a gun owner is knowing that you are supporting the single most important organization that is working to ensure your guns rights are not abridged. The NRA is the only national organization that walks the halls of congress daily to ensure your guns rights are protected. While we in California have a number of organizations that support our rights, the NRA is the “big dog” when it comes to political influence at the national level. As far as I am concerned the real question should not be what the NRA is doing for me, but what am I doing to support the goals of the NRA.

This and statements by several others sum up why I became a life member and will step up my level of support again soon.

If every lifer on CG offered their "Christmas deal" to other CGers, we could possibly add a dozen or more lifers every year.

I was just looking for info about a life membership and came across this thread. Look like I just missed it.
I suppose it will give me time to save up by next year.
