What gun control WOULD you support? - INTERESTING RESULTS SO FAR

I'm personally in the camp of minimum 24 hour waiting period for first time gun buyers just to keep people from doing something stupid without sleeping on it, and that's it. How about you?

UPDATE: It's fascinating the responses we see from the word support. I wonder what the difference would have been had I asked:

What kind of gun control would you find reasonable? But I didn't

      2. No mentally ill (confirmed of course)
      3. If you can vote you can have a gun. (this covers citizenship...I think please correct me if I am wrong.)

I'm in favor of using both hands. And some type of requirement of education and training prior to picking up your first gun.

Absolutely none. I would never support any legislation that directly or indirectly defies the constitution nor forces the people to give up liberty.

I'd be in favor of waiting periods for first-timers just in case, and prohibition of gun ownership by violent felons who have not had their rights restored, and those who have been adjudicated as mentally ill and dangerous to themselves or others.

                  Mentally ill.....ban till legally sane.
Felons who commit crimes with guns....ban for 5 years after you have paid your debt for the crime. Second offense...lifetime ban.
Safety training required before getting your first gun.

Waiting periods have never ever stopped crime or a criminal from getting a gun. The facts are that instant checks are much more effective because the individual is there right now buying the gun. Why let them out of the store to walk the streets. That is stupid. Besides if they've made the decision to do something illegal they aren't going to "cool down" and they can get a gun illegally or you pretty much anything as a weapon.

Meanwhile, the people who need them in a hurry suffer.

Waiting periods are great ... until you need a gun in a hurry, like during the Rodney King riots. (No, they weren't the "LA Riots" -- the riots were around the nation and the cause celebre was the verdict in the Rodney King beating trial.)

CAian gunnies up to that point wondered what would happen to the waiting period during a (local/statewide) state of emergency: Would the wait be lifted so that CAians who hadn't prepared ahead of time be able to buy guns and ammo to defend themselves? or what?

Turns out it was the "or what". Tom Bradley banned the sale of guns AND ammo. Even if you had cleared the background check and waiting period, but just didn't have time to get down to the gun shop to pick it up, you were out of luck -- you could not get your gun when you might have needed it most.

Now fast forward to Katrina to see what politicos and CLEOs will want to do to people who already have guns and ammo.

No, tie them down with the chains of the Constitution, federal laws, and state laws and they'll still probably find some way of restricting out RKBA when we need it most. Don't make their "job" of disarming us easier by supporting waiting periods.

Now, to CA's usual litany of potential natural disasters and political triggers (OWS), that could cause civil disorder, add the newer threat of domestic terrorism. Do you really think Jerry Brown will be any different than Tom Bradley?

I think we should keep guns out of the hands of felons if all possible. I also would not mind requiring some training for new owners.

                              Reality

Calif can implement insta-check like several other states use which usually takes just a few minutes. You can purchase 1 or more guns and be at the range same day..............no prob. This state is absolutely ridiculous!
