WI: 1% of state's pop. applied for LTCs in first 6 weeks!

In less than six weeks, 56,000 people applied for a permit under Wisconsin's new concealed carry law and thousands more bought handguns, swamping the state agency handling the required background checks.

The applicants so far amount to about 1% of the state's population, and very few of them have been rejected for a permit.

it would be interesting here in Cali... let's see all felons and gang bangers who'd ever been arrested would not get an LTC. Perhaps around 1% of law abiding citizens would have an LTC and criminals would have calculate this increased concealed carry into their illegal activities, causing crime to drop significantly.

        LAPD is being sued AGAIN.

If the court is anti, the judge will give them a slap on the wrist and another 20 years to comply.

...and I'll bet that tapers off very quickly.

Seems to me that most folks who felt motivated to pursue a LTC and already lived in WI would have done so at first opportunity - I know I would have. Then there will be a throttling down as less motivated folks apply, and as immigrants into the state apply, and as people whose world views change apply, and as folks who come of legal age apply. I'd bet it'll plateau somewhere around 2% of the state population, near the average of the rest of the shall-issue states.

I guess we'll see. In the meantime, it's nice that I can carry when I go back to see my folks.

As an aside, I wonder how the numbers would change in states where it's legal to have a handgun concealed within a vehicle without a permit if such states started requiring a permit to do so (there are a bunch).

            Wrong thread? Context?
