So if i get pulled over and the first thing the cop says is "License and Registration Please". i give it to him then he ask's "Do you have any weapons or drugs on you or in your car." you can lie and say No? even if the gun is being legally transported? and i have been pulled over before and they have asked the above on a routine traffic stop for no reason, but then i was unarmed so i answered honestly and said No. So lets say he cant see the weapon being transported or anything and you say No and No he cannot search you car? if he does he did an illegal search right and should be dismissed even tho the only thing you did was lie to an officer and i think that is illegal?

It's illegal to lie to a FEDERAL officer, locals not so much. If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about...........works both ways when they tell you to turn off the camera and quit recording them. "I have nothing illegal in the car and no I do not give my consent to a search" then STFU, if thats how you roll, otherwise fess up to having a gun and let them check.
A gun, like any other source of power, is a force for either good or evil, being neither in itself, but dependent upon those who possess it.

I understand that silence is often the best thing to do in a police situation, however, what is a polite way of informing the officer that you will remain silent for the rest of your confrontation, without making yourself look like you have something to hide?

In the case of a traffic stop, which I think would be the most likely scenario where this might occur, perhaps a statement such as "I am more than willing to discuss my driving with you, but nothing outside of that" would be suitable?

Or perhaps when they ask what's in the case, "atoms", or "plastic, metal, foam, and air" might be a good answer.....

yes, as long as its not a Federal officer. Sherriff, CHP, yes you can lie to that question, or any other questions not part of the reasons he pulled you over. He is fishing, hoping you will stick your foot in your mouth and say the wrong thing, or voluntarly give up information.

even if the gun is being legally transported?
Even if its being transported illegally! That has nothing to do with giving information to the police you are not required to give.

            Correct!

The search would be illegal. If he pulled you over for speeding, he only has cause to verify you have a licence, the vehicle is registered and insured, and give you a citation. Unless you give him more (yes I have firearms in the vehicle) or he sees more (exposed firearm or drugs or open bottle of booze) he can only do what he has probable cause for. You do not have to voluntarly give him any more PC or RS.

Best bet is to learn and practice "Verbal Judo." The cops are trained to do that, keep you talking, make you say things you should not. Learn to verbally spar, answer questions with question, etc.

Stop complaining. You act like those rights are important or something. I mean, if the founders really were so smart why are they all dead now? We don't really need all those "amendments" anyway.

Officer: "Do you have any guns or drugs in the car?"
Me: "I might have a bottle of Tylenol in the first aid kit or something like that (laugh), but nothing illegal."

I just answered his question, did not lie, and avoided discussing guns.

Maybe the officer is more clever than that ...

Officer: "OK but what about guns or weapons?"
Me: "Like I said officer, I have nothing illegal in my car. Why is it you stopped me again?"

Both of the above have happened to me. It went no further in either case.

Never carry your gun in a case that looks like a gun case. Carry it in something, anything else (a briefcase, a money box) anything that has a lock on it.
Carry a small folding utility knife in your cup holder or clipped to your visor in your car

When asked if you have any weapons in the car.
"Why yes officer I have this pocket knife here, and a tire iron I think in the trunk for the car jack, im sure I have a nail clipper somewhere in here too." Smile, be polite and jovial, then change the subject back to why you were stopped. "what did you pull me over for again?"

You didnt lie, you had weapons in the car, and informed the officer.

If your feeling dramatic and want to show some flair and style, have on your passenger seat a locked obvious gun case. Make sure the only thing in it is a copy of the 4th ammedment, and nothing else (no gun).

When the officer asks "Do you have any weapons in the car", or "Is their a gun in that case", stroke the top of the case with your finger tips and in your best star wars emperor voice say...

"You want this, dont you? The hate is swelling in you now. Take your Jedi weapon, use it! I am unarmed. Strke me down with it. Give in to your anger. With each passing moment you make yourself more my servant."

And then after he breaks into the case feel free to do this

"Gun owners in California in 2011 are like black people in the south in 1955. If you don't understand that then your concepts of fighting for gun rights is just tilting at windmills." Gene Hoffman.

"Why do you need to carry a gun?" ...Because it not a Bill of Needs, its a Bill of Rights!!

                          THIS IS THE CORRECT ANSWER!!!

NEVER tell them you have firearms or weapons inside a vehicle if they aren't visible. No good can come of it!

Other than a federal officer in an investigation, what reason do you think you have for not lying to sheriff or chp?? They certainly aren't federal. Answering that question with "Nope" is simple for most people.
For the person who said "if you have nothing to hide" you obviously haven't spent hours in cuffs being searched and questioned for having "nothing to hide".

                            NOPE, Nothing.
If they ask again, stay silent.

I like this. I keep a knife and a Taser on my person, and told them about that last time. Do not lie about having/not having a gun in the car, just don't discuss it.

I was told to just keep my hands visible, and not near my right side where I just told them the taser and knife were. No biggie, not one of these:
