    It's actually quite simple.
Ok, so you are saying that CA looks at it from a purely tax/regulatory point of view, with no goals of reducing crime? (The 6 handgun/year law). If that is true, then why does CA think they have any authority to regulate 2nd-hand sales? I guess cars are the obvious example where the State has stepped in and claimed tax-ownership on 2nd-hand vehicle sales. But you can sell all manner of items 2nd hand as an under-the-table transaction and CA has no law regarding such transactions. If it's just a tax thing, then I think it means that CA is butting too far in to personal lives. But I'm pretty sure it's not just a tax thing, I'm pretty sure it's an anti-gun thing.

      Yes.

In fact, if you sold them both to the same person (@ the same) , that only counts as one transaction.

So are you going to tell us what you got/are getting???

        Of course it's both.

It's six TRANSACTIONS per year (and each transaction can have an UNLIMITED # of handguns)...so if the OP's handguns are transferred at the same time, that counts as ONE transaction.
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
          Come on...what harm??

The beauty of the law is that it does not stop you from moving into the state and sell 10,000 1911 frames or handguns in one transaction. The problems only occur if you break it up into more than 5 transactions.

Life is like having a map with precise directions and exact stops, you find out that your directions and stops change as you progress further down your original map.

              It's less than 6, so 5.
