hi all,

just purchased my first handgun last week and have some questions. I've already read thru the wiki for concealed carry but was hoping to get some clarifications based on my particular scenario.

I have my own business, and my understanding is that i can carry a loaded handgun while i'm inside the building. Does this allow me to conceal the handgun or does it have to be open carry? I do NOT have a ccw. Location of business is alameda county, Ca.

I also work at my parents business. They own the building, but i'm only an "employee" there. I am not the legal business owner on paper, am i allowed to carry a loaded handgun while at work? Location of business, alameda county, Ca.


I also have a taser x26, and my understanding is that as long as i'm not in a federal building/school zone, i can carry that anywhere, concealed, open carry, even walk the dog with it if i wished? Im fully aware that if someone sees me carrying it while walking the dog, i run the risk of someone calling the cops thinking it's a gun.


Please shed some light as i really want to be clear as to what i can or cannot do. Thank you in advance CGN!



*edit* both business are "open to public" businesses. One is a retail store, while is a coffee/drink store similar to jamba juice/starbucks. Will i still be able to carry the handgun while loaded concealed OR exposed on me?

1. Yes, you can, concealed or not as long as you are in the part of the building you are leasing/own. This does not include common area's such as the lobby of an office building IIRC.
2. Same deal as above as long as you have the "owner's" permission.
3. Yes, but I have heard some cities trying to or have enacted city ordinances. Hopefully someone with more current knowledge can chime in.

But also bear in mind that you can only carry while INSIDE of the business. So moving to or from your car and the building you'd have to UOC (only if you're not within 1000ft of a school zone and only until January) or LUCC. Also, if you step outside for a smoke break or to go get some lunch then you can't be carrying.

I live in Alameda County as well, I have a Taser c2 and i was in formed by the Hayward Police department that it must be openly carried (cannot be concealed).

One thing I have learned is that if you ask 10 different police officers about the same law, you will get 10 different answers. (not cop bashing)

Never ask a cop for legal advice. If you have a question about the law ask a lawyer.

Never ask a cop for legal advice. If you have a question about the law ask a lawyer.

Can't be said often enough. Sometimes the police know the law, but it's not a very safe bet.
