"Would you really expect ANYONE in San Francisco to be anything other than a Second Amendment Troll?"

Now, now that is not true. There are forum members in SF and the bay area that would disagree. Someone should invite the writer to come out to a local range for an afternoon shoot and BBQ...I have converted many "liberal" folks to being progun..They are still gay, lesbian, union, abortion rights, etc...but now they are progun and vote that way..The guy is ignorant not stupid..He just needs to be educated..

True, if he just doesn't know all the facts, not true if he knows the facts and willing still lies. That is just stupid and evil.

Shovelhead's got a point, but I must say someone who writes for the newspaper should at least do some research on the subject rather than go on a rant who guns are bad. His credibility would stand up better if he actually did his homework.

      I will vote for a donkey-sex maniac if he's pro-gun.

Excellent first post, Shovelhead! Good suggestions, and I firmly agree with you that the best way to make a difference is to personally introduce people to shooting. I have done the same thing with fantastic results -- every ambivalent person I've brought has ended up having a good time, and they quickly want to transition from trying out the .22LR ruger to the 9mm or greater!

I know you're just blowing off steam, but I still beg to differ. I personally know quite a few people (including yours truly) who live in San Francisco, love shooting, own guns, support the 2nd amendment, and hate socialism. It's just that those people don't usually write articles for the Chronicle. (Cinnamon Stilwell excepted).

              bah

It's just more useless drivel from the SF Gate.

What I think folks in the Bay Area should do is call up and cancel their Chronicle subscriptions and tell them *why* you're canceling. (This article is reason enough to cancel.)

I've had it with the Chronicle and its dumbass 'reporters.' I wouldn't even call it a 'liberal media' thing. The Chronicle just plain sucks.

                Shovelhead,

Great post, great strategy. I've taken many liberals out to the range myself have converted a few. Not to the extent of changing their political platform (they will vote Dem anyway) but they aren't going to be convinced by the scare tactics of anti's that we are EVIL people.

Great example of golf! It's good to remind them that we don't want to see shooting deaths on TV either. We would LOVE to live in a world without violence. But a world without guns will still never be a world without violence. But a world without violence will still be a world with guns. Any liberal that has taken a course in logic should understand this (unless they were high that day or were ditching class).

Good luck and remember the only way we can beat these anti's is with our heads. We know we have that advantage, we just need their numbers.

The typical "San Francisco Liberal" is often quite different than a standard midwest liberal. Please remember that. Not all of us that consider ourselves fairly liberal are whack jobs like the average SF resident. (And yes, I know, some of you are from SF. I didn't say everyone in SF was a whack job.. just a lot of them. Too many of them. Whole bunch of turkeys living up there if you ask me.)

After reading that ridiculous article from the SF Gate, count me as one more liberal that just joined the NRA and sent a nice donation. I'm tempted to get the girlfriend a membership too.

lol...i thought this article was a load of bs. then again, i had lunch w/a friend today and she said all guns should be banned. i told her that cars kill more ppl than guns and she said that it was apples and oranges and that she refused to talk about guns anymore.

and yea, i live in sf, too.

Yeah guys lets no put all liberals in the same boat. I know a couple of liberal friends who love to go shooting. Its the extremists we have to worry about. The elitist in other words.
