CA DOJ telephone-answerers frequently give that same advice, which might explain a CA FFL repeating it.

Still violates Federal law. Don't do that.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

I didn't do that, but was mystified why a FFL would give that advice. Perhaps this explains why.

Dunno what you read, but a HSC IS required............that could be considered legal BS.

I'm thinking this is incorrect. Does anyone have a citation in California Law to support this. As far as I know the only consequence for an "unregistered" handgun in CA is a sentencing enhancement for conviction for illegal carry.

kemikalembalance do you have knowledge whereof you speak or are you just repeating something you heard?

In post 12, Fern provided the link to the Wiki article on registration.

What seems to be the source of the bit you quote would be the sentence enhancement for carrying concealed in PC 12025(b)(6); again, see the wiki -- http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/in...arm_Not_Loaded

No general requirement for handguns to be registered.

Talk to a intra-family friendly FFL. I know DAS in Solana Beach will do the transfer. I'd also suggest Parallax Tactical in Mira Mesa - but haven't used them for one.

Federal Law requires that you follow the laws in concerned in both states so that means in order for the transfer to be legal it must follow both Colorado & CA law. CA Law does not allow handguns to accepted to any citizen out-of-state without going through a CA licensed FFL. Have them spend the $25 dollars in shipping to a friendly FFL, combined with $19 for the IFT that's by far cheaper than any legal questioning of ownership by the authorities in this state if something should happen.

If the parents have a residence in both states they can just bring it in with them on their next trip. Then transfer it to him if they decide not to keep it anymore.
