You know all about the CMP?

I highly recommend the Special Grade M1 Garand if you can get a $1000 together.

They have ordinary, used but in excellent operating condition Garands for $500 also.

In May, a bureaucrat in charge of pushing paperwork at the state department told the nfatca conference attendees that the administration is holding it up because they don't want to see blood in the street .....in Mexico!!!!

I almost popped a gasket and called her out! ...but it was my first time at the conference and didn't want to be excluded from future events. I couldn't believe they had enough balls to repeat their lie to a room cull of people that know better.

That may be true - but at this point these rifles are 70 years old - and they were in service for most of that time. I base my comment on two sources:

        1) CMP - they actually flew someone over to examine some of these rifles a couple of years ago and at that point they were no longer interested in getting them because they were so bad. Of course, if they were the only M1s left.......

        2) My own examination of an ex-Korean M1 at Big 5. Yes, some lots did actually make it here. This one was price at $400.00 more than my service grade CMP rifle and the condition was much worse. The stock was beat up and most of the bluing was gone.

There may be some that CMP didn't see that are better and the one I saw may not be representative either - but my bet is they all will need a lot of work.
