Was just wondering if any one heard about this ban?

Do you mean the ban that Obama and Hillary placed on the return to the US of M1's that have been stockpiled in Korea?

If so, this is old news.

Probably referring to the evil rifles South Korea wants to sell us.

Old news... there was a legitimate argument made that the M1s were given to South Korea as part of a lend-lease type loan.

So essentially, they were trying to sell us our own property back.

That'd be fine w me as long as I could get one without too much pitting.

I'd like to have one. My son has one...and if the Korean returns were allowed, I could maybe, afford one!

I wouldn't have had a problem with it either... but that's all moot since the original owners (the US government) did have a problem with it... it would be like my buddy loaning me some kind of merchandise, and then I go and try to sell it back to his girlfriend: doesn't matter if she's okay with it... if my buddy objects, the sale doesn't happen.

It'd be more like your buddy loaning you some kind of merchandise and then telling you that you could do anything you wanted with it other than sell it to anyone without permission, and then telling you that although you can't sell it back to his girlfriend, you can sell it to a random guy on the street, or just throw it in a fire (US government was apparently OK with Korea just melting them down).

Your buddy can do it, but he's still a dick. :P

                    This.

There were a number of threads about it a while back.

Seems kinda dumb to tell them they are perfectly fine to destroy them, but in no way can you let these get sold to any US citizen.

Actually, the problem goes way back. So M1s were loaned to the Koreans and some were given to the Koreans. Now, 60 years later, neither the US or the Koreans has a list of which were loaned and which were given. This is why a similar request was denied by the Bush administration.

As far as US shooters are concerned the difference is important. The loaned guns - if returned - would end up at the Civilian Marksmanship Program, and would be sold to eligible US citizens at greatly reduced prices. Since the supply of M1s is reported to be growing short, this would be a good thing. The bad news is that these guns have been thrashed. They are in really bad shape, having seen a lot of hard use.

The best hope for a resolution of this matter - after the election of a pro-gun president - would be a negotiated settlement in which Korea would be allowed to sell a percentage of the guns and the remainder would go back to the Army and from there to CMP. Right now the problem is that Korea wants to sell them all and the administration wants to score points with Brady by keeping them all out.

why not say "thanks" and split profits 50/50

unless they'd rather have the melt iron, in that case it makes sense.

Did you get that same Front Sight email that I did? The one with more misinformation and propaganda than the Brady website?

I had to reply to rip them a new one. I hear good things about Front Sight but their most recent email is a blatant lie.

I was under the impression that the South Koreans took particularly good care of their gear.
