carry in national parks in CA?

    Hi, guys
so my friends and I often hike in Yosemite and other national parks in California.
I would like to know where can I find carry regulation for these areas?

-Can I carry my pistol and shotgun to the campsite? during hiking?
    - what form of carry is allowed for pistol? UOC? CC? LOC?

and how will AB144 affect it?

btw, in Yosemite website, it says discharge weapons in the park is illegal, but how about discharge weapons for self-defense? (against attacks) or as signal for rescue?

See the Firearms in Forests and Parks thread for detailed answers.

Short answer, UOC is currently legal in most areas. LOC is legal in your campsite.

Sadly AB144 will likely result in UOC becoming illegal again come January 2012.

Yosemite is FEDERAL land, and not subject to CA laws. Discharge would "possibly" get you in to some trouble, even when the law allows carry in National Parks.

Good link Mud. Thanks for putting that together for us.
        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

This is quite incorrect. All state laws apply in the National Parks.

True, but it is important to note that discharge is prohibited in the Parks, which means only UOC is legal, except in your campsite. Otherwise LOC would not be illegal.

And, of course, carry, even LTC, is illegal in posted federal buildings.

Carry other than LTC, is illegal in school zones, and I think there is one in Yosemite.

The prohibition on shooting will trigger 26350 (AB144) and make UOC (of handguns) illegal beginning 2012.

I actually had the same question about a month ago as I spent a weekend up there, so I called and spoke to a "park ranger", this was the basic convo.
Me: What are the rules on firearms in Yosemite?
                  Her: CALIFORNIA law applies.
Me: So basically dont carry loaded and if you dont see the firearm there will be no problems?
                  Her: Exactly.
So I only had it loaded at night while sleeping and during the day, I would unload and lock the firearm and loaded mags in two seperate bags with very easy access. I also didnt carry during the day as I really saw no reason (your situation may differ). Keep it low key and dont cause problems and there should be nothing to worry about.

I would assume for the same reason people need to jump in and "handle" a incorrect statement with their own over the top opinion when it has been handled eloquently already in previous posts. They think they are helping when in actuality they are not.

SO, why did you keep the ammo separate?
