    Vol reg and HSC

I'm going to submit my paperwork and check to reg my pistol purchased pre '91. Do I need to get a HSC before I submit the form to DOJ? (I don't have a current HSC now).

    TIA !

I don't have an answer to your question but I wonder why you want to register your handgun?

If you are illegally carrying your handgun concealed, there is benefit to registration but it doesn't do anything else that I know of.

It is certainly not required by any law (that is why registration is voluntary).

Some issuing authorities want them registered to put them on your carry license. It may be an illegal requirement but it's easier to comply than be disarmed until the case winds its way through the courts.

Some people want to register just so there is a record in case a gun is stolen etc.

Additionally, if the handgun is ever taken into custody by law enforcement, having the VolReg will make it a lot easier to get your gun back.

Exactly what dantodd said... I don't want it stolen. I'm not worried about my home.. I'm worried if my car gets broken into or stolen. (locked container in the trunck of course)...

Anyway, does the HSC come into play?

I believe the HSC is only needed to purchase a handgun, borrow, or otherwise transfer ownership of a handgun.

It should not be a player in the registration process.

If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.

You definitely do not need an HSC to VolReg a handgun.

Like Decoligny says, the HSC is only needed when a transfer takes place, including temporary loans where the owner doesn't stay with the person borrowing the handgun.
