The only thing we can say with certainty, is that Brown will surprise a lot of people on this board.

Thats what my money is on. I dont think enough people in California care about the negative effect these laws are designed to have on lawful gun owners, and frankly, I am starting to lose interest my self... Its more than just guns. So much emotional investment, with so little reward and so many let downs...
My wife will apply to school in Texas, and we will hopefully stay out there to raise our kids (I certainly wont raise them here...) and buy a home. I have come to the realization that the majority of fellow Californians dont share or even understand my values. They have the government they want and deserve in my opinion. We are going to be with our own kind.
I think its going to come down to the SCOTUS basically saying, as they have said already, here is the baseline, but lower courts and legislatures can make as many other gun laws as they feel like making. And right now the California legislature wants guns banned or strictly controlled.
I still give money and time to the cause, but I am definitly feeling like I am just along for the ride at this point.
Edit* Of course, I hope I am wrong, but I still think its to late for me.Last edited by SanPedroShooter; 10-06-2011, 6:35 PM.Comment

You are also assuming that all the bills signed/vetoed are immediately updated.
I'm guessing some of those are already done and being typed/finalized by office workers. If it goes anything like I'd expect, he's just going through 40-50 bills at a time and his staff are drafting responses (including the funny ones) based on his comments.
And then there is the iteration to get all the snarky comments just right before signing it. Stuff like that takes far longer than you'd expect.
I'm sure the majority of the decision making is done and its all in the polish pass now.Comment

I am almost fully expecting him to let the bills pass into law, and I really hate to say that. I have ordered handgun ammo online for years along with .22 rimfire, now I'll have to pay twice as much for it plus be treated like a criminal when I go to buy it.
I think the fact they included .22 lr on the list is crossing the ****ing line big time, and I am pissed to say the least.Comment

Yep, but the nice thing about California is that no matter where you live you can be in another state in 4 hours or less. If you are in Northern CA, Cabelas is just across the boarder. Ditto the Reno Gun Shows. That is where my money is going.I am almost fully expecting him to let the bills pass into law, and I really hate to say that. Sent emails through the Governor's website's "contact us" selection urging a veto. From the way it's formatted I assume it will just tabulate the con & pro emails sent in for each bill and they won't read any of the comments but hell, put some in anyways. Can't hurt I guess.Comment

Actually with the possible exception of Texas, that can be said about any of the lower 48 states. It's just that in most of them it isn't necessary.Comment

Please don't take this the wrong way, but for a few moments imagine the courage our forefathers had when negotiations with the King weren't going so well. They can pass whatever illegal (basic rights guaranteed by the Constitution) legislation they want, but until they actually start confiscating guns and thereby circumventing the 2A altogether, we must trust in the supreme law of the land.
Leaving the state and "running" from the potential seed of tyranny, while acceptable, isn't courageous. Give our lawyers who donate so much of their time and lives to the cause a fair shot at running these "CA laws" to the SCOTUS. The fight is hardly over, just like the first handgun ammo ban.Comment

I agree. However, I doubt there are many who actually leave California over our firearms legislation.
Some day I may leave California myself. Part of the reason would be the insanity of our governing bodies - and our firearms laws exemplify that imbecility.
For years we have had budgets which were effectively fraudulent (and understood to be fraudulent when passed), we have ridiculously high tax rates, we bestow largesse on those who are illegally in this country, we care more about bait fish than we do about feeding our children, we do our best to regulate business into leaving the state. We enshrine bankrupt economic policies on the people and enterprises of the state - and do it merely as a symbolic (and clearly futile) gesture to satisfy easily discredited science. It just goes on and on and on.
Idiotic firearms legislation is just a part of it. It may be the part which is emphasized on a 2A forum, but I'd guess it is a minor part of the reason why most leave the state.
And just because you don't live in California doesn't mean you aren't a part of the fight. All that is needed to make that clear is to remember that Gray Peterson does not live in California (plenty of others who are not Californians and contribute greatly to the fight as well). Not exactly sure where Gura lives, but his contribution to our fight has been tremendous.
If people need to leave the state they should do so. I'd appreciate it, however, if they stay with us in the fight.CGN's token life-long teetotaling vegetarian. Don't consider anything I post as advice or as anything more than opinion (if even that).Comment
