    Ak underfolder question

If I took the cleaning rod and used a zip tie to attach it to the barrel so it extended to the minumum legal length, Can it be shipped to CA with an unpinned stock?

    Probably not a good idea.

A little more permanence would be a good idea, maybe a longer flash hider.

How permanent is a zip tie, and how strong is the cleaning rod? I don't think that's going to fly.

When I had my underfolder shipped in, them gun store guys triple checked that it does not fold, the pin was in there good, etc. It was like a CSI analysis... so make sure you pin that baby good.

          LOL.

Bro, that's a pretty nuts idea. I think your safety from prosecution demands a much more robust mechanism of ensuring OAL requirements.

If the people you have in mind cannot help you, perhaps you could call Quentin Laser and see if they can help you reach a more appropriate solution.
''I want to make it clear,'' [Carl Rowan] said the other day as he emerged from his arraignment [for illegal possession and use of a firearm in Washington DC], ''that I still favor a strict national law to control the availability of handguns to those who are not law enforcement officials.''

What's wrong with the ol' copper pipe and hose clamp trick to keeping the stock locked open?

How long of a bayonet can you get for one of these?

One of the more ingenious ways I've seen an underfolder done was one guy (I can't find the original picture but it's what I plan to do with my build) left the folding stock intact and useable but welded a 6" or so air chisel to the rear trunnion between the stock's "arms."
The rifle looked great unfolded and met length requirements when the stock was tucked under.

...I'll see if I can do more digging to show you the particular rifle.
EDIT: found the thread, photobucket link expired :/ but seriously, imagine one of these stuck on the back of your AK.

Just put a bayonet on it. It is 26" when it is folded and the bayonet makes it over 30".

The other way is to drive one of the pins all the way through on the inside of the folder. there is usually a hole in the receiver. Push the pin in and it wont fold. to fix it remove the pistol grip and push the pin back in.

The 30" CA OAL does NOT require any permanence. A cleaning rod is pushing it, but just put on a long brake and you're good. There are several shops around here (San Diego) that stock completely legal underfolders with long brakes to make the CA OAL length. No stock pinning required.

The thought of making a gun legal by putting a bayonet on it.
