    Cali Airsofters need help!

I know that basically everyone on here uses real steel; but I, and some of you, also use airsoft.

Airsofters in California are being faced with a potentially serious threat. SB 798 would require that all of our guns be painted bright colors which would be detrimental to any milsim (and most other) games.

Air splat is having this letter sent to the senators. I know many of you don't play airsoft, but if you could throw your name in with ours to help our cause it may prevent this from spreading. You all understand how frustrating the ever-tightening real steel laws are.

Here is the letter to print, sign, and mail.

What many people don't realize is how asinine the painting of "toy" guns is (and airsoft arent really toys. Not like Nerf guns are toys anyway)... If I wanted to draw down on a cop (which I don't) without threat of being shot, I could paint any real gun bright neon orange. Even then He would be completely dumb to not at least point his weapon back in case he needed to return fire... Those of us that are mature and take good care of our guns treat them as we should; as if they were indeed real steel firearms. We transport them in bags, (not in the open) we don't wave them around, and we only play in designated areas with appropriate safety measures. I would vote that Parents of airsofting minors be required to take an instructional safety class before buying guns, or even that minors not be allowed to own them if it would prevent this completely illogical law. (And I normallyhave no problem playing with kids providing they act mature.)

Anyway, I and many other of the cali airsofters would greatly appreciate your help in stopping this. Thanks!

This would be counter-productive. Are law enforcement supposed to assume that brightly painted guns are toys? People can paint real guns bright colors too. This is just stupid.

Exactly our point in trying to halt the progress of this and other such laws. Please spread the petition as much as you are able!

transport would be illegal, and we all transport our guns between field and home etc.... Basically it would be a pain in the a** any time we needed to take our gun to the shop, sell a gun, move our gun etc. If a cop pulled us over for some traffic violation and asked about weapons, searched the vehicle and found an illegally colored gun, he could bring down hell.

I think this is De Leon.

It's about a young boy that was shot and killed because he had a fake gun.

I'd like to know the particulars, was the kid pointing the gun at the cop, or did the cop just see a gun and start shooting?

It is a stupid idea. Criminals could start painting guns bright colors to make police hesitate.

its de leon. the kid drew a gun in the apropriate motion from under a jaacket. the cop saw it and reacted as he should have. he fortunately only injured the chid. Its kids ike this that make it tough on our sport.

As an airgun tinkerer I have a specific interest in this legislation.

As for transporting and owning guns after this bill passes (god forbid)

This bill would make the provision imposing a civil fine on the sale,
manufacture, transportation, receipt, or distribution of imitation
firearms for commercial purposes applicable to BB devices.

So if you own a gun you can still bring it around and fire it at the range (LOL what a joke) you can transport it anywhere you like just not for commercial purposes. I don't see any reason you couldn't still build, transport, ship, etc for non commercial purposes. Of course try explaining that to barney fife who just got a memo about how all non neon bb guns are illegal.

What scares me, and what clearly makes this law a direct violation of the federal law I quoted above is that when you read the digest, it states that existing law excludes BB devices (including airsoft and paintball) from the provisions against commercial manufacture, as if that is some kind of problem?

The federal law couldn't be any clearer. With respect to coloration and marking the federal regulations trump all. If it fires metal projectiles no coloration, plastic or non firing it needs an orange tip. That's it.

Any idea when this will be up for vote?

Of course if we paint guns neon colors that will solve the problem of police shooting innocent people! Tell that to the family of the guy shot a bunch of times for holding a neon water nozzle and watering his lawn.

De Leon butt hurt over AB 962 and all his other failed bills that he needs to start targeting imitation firearms now. What a crock of cr@p. I already wrote to my State Senator, I urge everyone to do the same.

This is not just about airsofters. I rely on airsoft replicas to provide the Utah CCW class at my office.

Its all just a psuedo safety just like the orange tip. I can paint a orange safety on my rifle and its still dangerous. Cops will understandably respond to anything that looks like a firearm as a firearm(including but not limited to :wooden guns, umbrellas(true story), garden nozzles, cellphones, pears or any other grenade shaped fruit, etc)

Printed, signed, and sent. I'm not an airgunner, but this should be stopped.

Don't worry, the antis have a solution for this problem as well. They just want to prove that mandatory colors for replica and real firearms doesn't work so that they can push for a ban on both.
