    intra familiar transfer?

Could I give my mother or father a rifle without any sort of paperwork? I was reading a couple threads and even the doj website, that was my understanding? another question is, could my mother or father sell it in the future VIA ppt if they decide it wasn't for them?

    thanks,
    Dennis

No. There is paperwork that needs to be done. You just don't need to go to a FFL for a transfer. Just feel out this form and send it in with payment.

And, once the weapon is theirs they can do what ever they want with it; as long as it's legal.

Edit: I was just thinking that this form is intended for handguns but it should work for rifle too.

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

No form or other report to DOJ is required for intrafamilial transfers of rifles or shotguns.

Nothing has to be sent in. The referenced form is only required for handguns and handguns only.

According to the document itself, 2nd page, under Submission Requirements, it states ...

"Complete all required information. Incomplete applications will be returned without processing. If reporting more than three handguns, make and attach extra copies of this form to meet your reporting needs. A firearms eligibility check will be conducted to determine whether you are lawfully eligible to possess firearms. Once approved, you will receive a confirmation notice of your transaction. Do not report long guns using this form. If you wish to voluntarily report ownership of long guns, use the Department of Justice firearm Ownership Report form availableat www.ag.ca.gov/firearms, or by calling (916) 263-4887."

... operative words being "Do not report long guns ..." and "voluntary report ownership of long guns, ..." which to me fairly clearly defines that this form is NOT for long guns, nor are you "required" to "register" long guns.

I could be wrong about the long-gun (non) requirement. Maybe it's just a not required for "intra-family transfers" thing. Anyone disagree?

Why do people insist on adding unnecessary hoops to an already over complex system of CA gun laws? IT IS PERFECTLY LEGAL FOR THE OP TO JUST HAND OVER THE RIFLE TO HIS PARENTS (if they're residents of CA).

Cool my bad. I thought they would have to be reported too.
