    California Trip

I feel bad but I need to get to Chino - I have a long drive ahead of me - that's where my family is and that's the main reason I'm making this trip This was not intended to be a NorCal trip. I just thought I would pick up a few on the way down. It was first come, first serve. And it went quick.

Sheriff Palmer said he'll be back in late March. Try to convince him to make his stop at your state capitol.

I wish I could do more

I would make an assumption that my son will be deployed again some time in the next few months or possibly this summer. If so, we will make a trip to the Marysville, Sacramento area to see him off. Maybe do a Redding overnighter. He is currently at Beale, AFB. Not sure if there would be any takers in the Alturas area or not.......Would like to set something up with Calguns for the SoCal trip in late March during Spring Break.....

Something else that crossed my mind that probably isn't for this thread....I received a magazine where California out of all places is a right to hunt state and the article says that you have a Constitutional amendment that provides for this.....How can you make it a Consitutional right to hunt but yet so difficult with gun ownership???? So far, there are I think 7-8 states that it is a Constitutional right to hunt.

    Sheriff Palmer
One day, Benjamin Franklin was asked, "So, what have you done for me today Mr. Franklin?" Mr. Franklin responded, "I gave you a republic. It is up to you to defend it....if you can."

If you guys haven't done so yet, please check out this site. These are hard fighting folks. I'm not even applying but I made a small donation to the PAC and the Education arm. Money well spent...

      Thanks Sheriff Palmer and Sal!

It appears there are 4 slots left in Chino. I'm cutting it off at 60. Reserve your spot on the thread - don't PM me.

I'm getting a lot of questions about start time and when should you be there. It's up to you. It starts at 10AM. I'm probably going to be there most of the day. Don't come any later than 3PM.

There are 7 things you need to do. Please go through this checklist carefully and make sure all your paperwork is in order paper-clipped together, especially if you're not a paperwork-type person...and you know who you are

We'll be using black ink [non-smearing] only. It's okay if you filled out your application in blue ink - that doesn't matter. It's the fingerprint card that requires black ink.

Be advised, I may not be able to check this thread again. Long day, long drive ahead of me. Most, if not all the questions should be answered if you read through it.

        Happy 2011

        Checklist
This is what I need from the applicant who would like to apply for the Oregon [non-resident] Concealed Handgun License through Grant County, Oregon. Oregon will only issue CHLs to people who are residents of states that border Oregon. Those states are Washington, California, Idaho and Nevada. A non resident from the states listed can go to any sheriff in Oregon and apply, but Sheriff Palmer of Grant County Oregon is a true friend of gun owners, and his goal is to make it as easy as possible for our border state residents to obtain an Oregon concealed handgun license.

I will not have time to organize this for you, so I need this paperwork fully prepared by you and paper-clipped together, except for the fingerprint card and picture which I will do in person. Be advised: On the Oregon CHL application, disclosure of your Social Security number is VOLUNTARY.

        Here’s the checklist:

        1. A Copy (black & white) of your driver's license. Address on your driver’s license MUST match your current residence. If it doesn't, please try to visit the DMV and take care of that prior to out meeting. I think you can do that on the CA DMV website unless you have a commercial driver’s license.
        2. A copy of every current concealed weapons permit you have. If no permits then either a passport, military I.D., voter registration card, employee I.D. or some type of photo I.D., etc…Costco cards will do. No credit cards please. If you absolutely do not have a 2nd form of I.D. I’m pretty confident Sheriff Palmer will make an exception.
        3. Photocopy of your certificate of training for Oregon
        4. Grant County CHL application filled out completely; signed and stapled together. Social Security number is not required. If the link below doesn’t work, just go to oregonfirearms.org > CHL Central > [scroll down to map] Grant County > Grant County CHL Application

        5. Check or money order for $65 made payable to 'Grant County Sheriff's Office'
        6. Self-addressed stamped envelope (letter size).
        7. A piece of paper quarter turned in landscape mode with your legal name (middle initial is ok) typed in the largest font so it fits across the very top of the page on the same line. I need this for you to hold up by your chest when I take your mug shot. If you are not a computer person & have no idea how to accomplish this, just use a sharpie and hand write it.
        8. Picture (jpeg format – I will take in person)
        9. Fingerprints (I will take in person)

                Sal,

I wanted to let you know that I will not be able to make it on Sunday. Thank you for taking so much time out of your vacation to do this for everyone. I will try to make it the next time you or Sheriff Palmer are able to make it down.

                Happy New Year.

Missed out on the Sacramento stop. Probably just as well. Was getting all my documents in order last night on the chance that someone might cancel and noticed that my California drivers license has my mailing address (PO Box) and not my physical address! Looks like I would have been screwed showing up with that. Has anyone been in a similar situation and know how to go about getting my address on the license changed. I've read about some supplemental address card you can get at the DMV but not sure if this is sufficient for a CCW application (want to do a Utah license also). Thought about going the lost license route and updating the address but have been hearing horror stories about the delay in the new licenses. Anybody have any ideas? Sheriff Palmer..would the supplemental address card along with my current license suffice? Thanks for any help guys.

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

FYI this form is slightly different from the one Sal linked to.

On page 3, the line "Print Legal Name" is missing and the statement "LIST RESIDENCE OF ADDRESSES FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS ON BACK OF THIS PAGE" is added.

Dunno if these make any difference.

Sal's linked file is the latest version from the Sheriff's office.

The previously posted file is an earlier version some of us put together as a fillable file.

I would use the one Sal linked to.

I live on a ranch. My CA drivers license has a P.O. Box because there is no US Mail delivery out here. Because of that they always ask for my vehicle registration which has my name and my physical address. I also include my county property tax document which also has my name and physical address. Those always have worked for my CCW licenses in NV, Utah and Florida as well as buying handguns in CA.. So, I would suspect you could do the same for the Oregon CCW application.

Thank you. It works! I had to print up a page on Word listing my one and only address of the past five years and also my printed name. This will work great. I appreciate the effort.

When Sal asked for a self addressed envelope, is he speaking of a regular size envelope with a 42 cent stamp? Or a large 9" x 12" legal size envelope? Any ideas what it is for?
