    Frustrated

Hello all. New member and new California resident. I have been waiting patiently for my California driver's license and finally got it 3 weeks ago along with registration. I drove 2 hours to order the rifle I wanted and today received a call from the seller saying the DOJ had rejected the application. The only information they provided was that it had to do with the DMV. Does anyone have any ideas what this could possibly be, of course I can't call them until Monday. Record is clean, absolutely no prior legal problems.
    ANY IDEAS?

    Thanks

Call them on Monday. It could be rated to the issues DMV seems to be having with the new CDLs.

ok, so it sounds like this is may be a common problem with the new licenses and not something specific with me. Thanks for the input

I have a current US passport tho.. so I think Ill be alright.. I just wonder if the state budget didnt allow for these and this is why we havent recieved em yet!!?? ;P

Renewed min in October. They said I'd receive new DL in 2 weeks (there's that 2 weeks again) - it took almost six.

I think you do need at least 3 months proof of residency at the current address

The FFL I used for my first purchase asked me to bring in car registration or other documentation that I had lived in KA for 6 months (i think it was 6, could have been 3)...either way, there was some additional info required related to length of residency...

3 or 6 months required??....never heard of that. I can see several problems with denying someone a firearm because they moved.

I'm sure that this requirement exists to deter all the folks who quickly move to CA from AZ, NV and OR to take advantage of our lax gun laws.....

...sounds like good facts (guns for the home) to take down length of residency requirements for CCWs....

I've only heard of length of residency requirements for hunting and fishing licenses. I'm unaware of any length of residency requirements to purchase a firearm. As long as you have a picture ID and one other document with a (matching) CA residence on it, you should be good to go. Maybe there's an issue with your driving record. I know you said your record is clean, but that never stopped the highly trained professionals at DMV from screwing something up. Is your name a common name that could be easily confused with someone else? Do you owe any child support or fines? Those all could show up on your DMV record too. Good luck. I'd give DOJ a call and see what they have to say about it.

Update: So, after spending about an hour on the phone this morning the issue seems to be resolved. DOJ said I had to contact DMV, they said everything looked valid. I then called the DMV issuance office in Sacremento and they also assured me there was no problem. I called back to the DOJ and the operator told me the issue had been resolved and that the background check would be processed. No one had any idea why this would happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if other new state residents or people who get the new CDL have issues. Be prepared to have everyone tell you they have no idea what is going on. Thanks for all the responses.
