    Sheriffs' runoffs results?

Did anyone make a list of sheriffs races having runoffs today?

If so, did you also note races where a pro-CCWer was against an anti?

If so again, could you post the results showing whether we made gains?

    Thanks ahead of time!

John D'Agostini seems to be winning in El Dorado County. Thompson seems to be winning in San Benito County. Cortez seems to be losing in SLO County.

All the votes have been counted in San Benito County. Thompson won. Upset victory. http://results.sbcvote.us/

Ian Parkinson won in San Luis Obispo County and not Joe Cortez

It looks like ex-Pacific Grove Chief Scott Miller ousted Incumbent Sheriff Mike Kanalakis in Monterey County. Doubtful that it indicates any change in CWW policies there though.

Frank Rivero defeated incumbent Rod Mitchell in Lake County.

Not sure what it means for CCW permits yet (Mitchell was pretty much shall-issue). I'm about to apply, so I'll let you guys know.

Sheriff Mitchell was "pretty much shall issue", but he refused to issue to a Canadian citizen and US permanent resident alien, which is unlawful under state law and People v. Rappard. I don't like lawbreakers, even if they run around touting their NRA endorsement. Not to mention a durational residency requirement. Rivero has stated that he would eliminate unlawful requirements such as letters of reference.

I have zero respect for Sheriff Mitchell, regardless of how "pro-gun" he supposedly is. You cannot call yourself "pro-gun" and then put in unlawful requirements that make it more difficult for gun owners to get licenses purely for political cover.

I am glad Sheriff Mitchell was defeated. It's a nice head on the pike to show these other rural sheriffs that lawbreaking and being a "good old boy" won't save you. I look forward to working with Sheriff-elect Rivero to get his policy in compliance with law and continue the good cause posture of the previous sheriff, if not significantly improve it.

Spot on observation Grey. I doubt we will ever see the Ex Sheriff on any of the Gunny sites now that there isn't a political reason.
As far as Rivera gos, his CCW policy has been a evolving saga. Lets hope he doesn't try to backtrack now that he has won.

Prior to his election I've received an e-mail from Miller that was positive on CCW. We'll have to se whether that was a stance just to get elected or not. He certainly could not be any worse than Kanalakis on CCW.

You should PM Gray Peterson and get him a copy of the email. I'm sure he would like to follow up with Sheriff Miller before he even takes office. It would be good to have his ear before the entrenched civil servants start scaring him about liability or the "AG opinion" on limited issue etc.

If Miller gets educated about Sacto and various other counties and statutory indemnifications he has it will be easier for him to push back against those who would try and convince him to keep the existing policy.
