Shockingly Balanced article in NYT re. Permits to Own Guns

Yes, I know, a permit to even own a gun is garbage. But I'm talking about the idea that even having a gun might help a GG defend themselves. In that, this article is surprisingly balanced.

Killing Prompts Push for Bodega Owners to Get Gun Permits

Fernando Mateo has mostly garnered attention for two causes: ensuring the safety of livery drivers and getting illegal guns off the streets.

So it seemed a little strange to see Mr. Mateo on Thursday urging bodega owners to apply for handgun licenses to protect themselves.

The normalization of permission slip rights makes me want to puke my guts out. They all act like a $350 fee just to own is a regular thing. Bring on NYGuns.net...

i am surprised at the article. the nytimes wasn't always this nice, but it has been getting more...balanced?

the part i didn't like was that the reporter let that guy from the nyagv talk about 'studies' without making him provide the backup. i'd rather keep that statement out of the article unless there's hard proof.

“Rather than going out and creating an arms race,” Mr. Weaver said, “let’s TRY to take the guns out of the hands of criminals.”

"TRY" is a synonym for fail.

"Shockingly balanced"? No, just good reporting, a familiar staple of the NY Times.
Making guns illegal is as stupid as making drugs or prostitution illegal.
