    Email from Alan

On Monday I took a little time to write a short congradulation to Alan Gura through his web site.

This morning I recieved a short reply.

He sounds quite pleased with the decision in the case and is optimistic about the future.

He is confident that he will have his fee paid by The City of Chicago.

No word on which university he's going to work for...

I know, it was just a little joke about him being "The darling of the professoriate".

He is supposed to be refered to as Alan "The Hammer" Gura.

Alan's gonna have a lotta nice expensive red sports cars and I'm sure he'll be upgrading his home at DC/Chicago/NYC expense.

As much as I like and admire Alan, he's not what's winning these cases.

He's nice as a "don't mess with me or I'll take this to SCOTUS and kick your butt in D.C." threat but we have lawyers in California that could be SCOTUS winners in a few years.

It's great to have Alan but that doesn't mean we can't get a lot done while he's kicking butt elsewhere.

Will Alan be coming to the SAF event in SFO this fall? I hope to be able
to thank him in person for a third time. Also, hope Pena will be decided
so we go on to other things.
What about the 19th? Can the Commerce Clause be used to make it illegal for voting women to buy shoes from another state?

I'm on board, I was just responding to this "the hammer" nick name.

We've got a few not so blunt objects to beat down unconstitutional laws beside Alan.

Strange reaction, Wash. The lawyers here and Gura take nothing from one another in terms of stature, but form a network of powerful legal minds advancing a single purpose. Praising Gura for his second landmark victory for our rights could not be more appropriate at this time. Last I checked, we were all on the same team.

The Second Amendment is the one right that is so fundamental that the inability to exercise it, should the need arise, would render all other rights null and void. Dead people have no rights.

                      I'm being misunderstood here.

The second amendment is what's winning these cases.

The lawyer with the best hair doesn't win.

The constitution is on our side.

Alan is a really, really great lawyer but he's not a silver bullet.

Like I said, we can still do a lot here while he's kicking butt somewhere else.

I'm not trying to take anything away from him. Without his skill and effort, Heller and McDonald probably would not have happened. We owe him greatly for that.

We just don't need to wait for "the hammer" when we want to challenge an unconstitutional law, we've got Don Kilmer and others that can get the job done too.

NO, NO, NO, Alan, along with our Heller/McDonald '5' need to be sequestered in a round padded room with their diet monitored and an exercise bike; not driving fast red cars, smoking cigars, or eating red meat!!!

To be fair.... The constitution has been on our side for over 200 years, but it wasn't until June 28th this one sentence about guns in the constitution became binding on the states.

Gura should get plenty of credit

You're missing my point - Alan is not "working somewhere else"; he's working "everywhere" as is prudent and timely.

Cases designed to go all the way must be prepared as such; few attorneys can actually do that. Fortunately, our team is the best in the nation at it.

Please understand that we are very much aware of who we have available and how to apply their strengths; note that Don, Alan and Jason serve as co-counsel on nearly all of our cases. None of this happens by accident.

Many of us at CGF have extensive experience in resource allocation, balancing, scheduling and goal achievement as managers of substantial enterprises.

Again, be patient. Rest assured that if it's unconstitutional, it will be challenged.
