Good morning. My name is Pat Wray. I was invited to join your forum, sort of like inviting a bull to a bullfight, I expect. Nonetheless, I thought I'd respond to the statements about the AHSA and my alleged connection to them. Here's the truth: I am intrigued by the possiblity they present. I am sick of the NRA shilling for the Bush Administration as they continue their efforts to sell, extract and put roads into public lands that were previously protected. I believe the NRA sells hunters out for cheap votes from politicians whose primary allegiance is to extractive industries but who will, in return for their support, vote the way the NRA tells them too. The NRA is sacrificing our hunting heritage.
So, I'm on the lookout for an organization that not only will protect my right to bear arms, but will also help protect public lands and the wildlife that live there. The AHSA says many of the right things. I think if they are the real deal, a lot of people who belong to the NRA because it is now their only choice, or who simply don't belong because they are disgusted, will be attracted to the AHSA.
Which brings us to the question of the AHSA principles. I spent several hours interviewing Ray Schoenke, John Rosenthal and Bob Ricker at the Outdoor Writers Association conference last June in Lake Charles, LA. I was intrigued enough to invite them to come chukar hunting with me last November. Schoenke and Rosenthal came, along with Austin Dorr. During that three day hunt I came to the conclusion that all were decent, honest, committed men. Does it bother me that Rosenthal has been associated with the Brady campaign? It did, until I learned that he quit them when he realized that they were working toward no guns at all. He has worked with organizations to stop handgun violence. Big deal. Does anyone support handgun violence? Does it bother me that Ray Schoenke has contributed to Democratic candidates? Not a bit.
Having said all that, am I sure that AHSA is the real deal? Not quite. I'm still waiting for unequivocal statements from them regarding gun registration and other important aspects of the right to bear arms. I am neither a member nor am I affiliated in any way. But they are moving in the right direction, I think, and they bear careful consideration.
It's important to remember that the NRA and Chris Cox have a very serious interest in making the AHSA look like anti-gun folks and in making me look like a serial goof. Consider the source.
I'm looking forward to spending a little time in this forum. I've already learned a good bit from some of your members who responded directly to me regarding the Jim Zumbo piece...and I suspect I'll learn more.

HAH! Saying things like that about the NRA is not going to bode well for you. Especially not from me. He could have wrote this piece without knocking the NRA at all."No throwing live ammunition into bonfires on runs."Comment

The AHSA is an obvious "stealth" gun control group. AHSA supports "AW" bans and other gun control measures.
Also note that their site is down. Hmm, what could the reason for that be?
Cause maybe they've been outed?Originally posted by Deadbolt"We're here to take your land for your safety"

AHSA facts:
They support banning .50 BMG "sniper rifles." Pretty much taken right from that 50 caliber terror site.
They believe the BS about the so-called "gun show loophole."

The more I see this the more I back the NRA. I hope that is the real outcome of all this NRA bashing. I hope it just makes people realize that we cannot be fractured and join just because thats the attempt being made.
NRA-ILA is a great cause, I hope it spreads like wildflower state to state.Look at the tyranny of party -- at what is called party allegiance, party loyalty -- a snare invented by designing men for selfish purposes -- and which turns voters into chattles, slaves, rabbits, and all the while their masters, and they themselves are shouting rubbish about liberty, independence, freedom of opinion, freedom of speech, honestly unconscious of the fantastic contradiction... I would have to say that "follow the money" would truly turn up something interesting about Pat Wray and AHSA.**
