"Gun remark makes outdoorsman an outcast" (MSN)

Saw this article on MSN.com this morning. According to hunting writter Jim Zumbo, we are "terrorist rifle" enthusiasts. He has since back tracked on his comments, but apparently the damage for him has been done . . .

"If they did, a rift could emerge between hunters, who tend to have the most money for political contributions to gun rights causes, and assault-weapon owners, who tend to have lots of passion but less cash." -msn story

This story may be "old", but I found the above excerpt from the story quite alarming. In fact, in the circles I run with, most hunters could give a crap about those "other" rifles (EBR's, etc.). And far more aren't even pro-gun organization members. "WTF would I need a .50 for?" Guess who's asking to shoot who's rifle now??

Sorry, but practically anyone can plunk down $300-$500 bucks on a shottie or 7mm and trudge through the forest and mud a couple of times a year and call themselves a hunter; and not contribute jack to the "movement" of RKBA, but don't hammer me and call me a zealot or gun nut just because I have an "arsenal" and enjoy shooting year round. With the exception of one guy I work with (who tries to travel out of country once a year to hunt) I spend way more on my gun hobby than they could imagine.

Sorry for the BS rant, but I think the mainstream press is hell-bent on portraying assault weapon enthusiasts as white trash gumps. Oh, wait, I live in Amador County...

Don't worry, the search Nazis have nothing better to do... Not to mention the fact that the search feature on this bulletin board system really doesn't work very well.

That's based on assumptions that hunters are these rich dudes going to lodges, hanging out duck hunting with $18K Perazzi shotguns, doing the guided tours,e tc.

I'm betting that is regurgitated Brady propaganda backwashed into the media.

That description a very very small part of the gunnie population.

Lotsa folks' multiple ARs+scopes cost a helluva lot more than the typical couple of standard Remmy bolt guns and an 870 or 1100 that a 'hunter' has.

I agree with you. Seems like the AW fans have a lot more disposable income than any of the hunting crowd I used to run with back home.

                    re: hunters

When i was living as a refugee from CA in NC from 1992 to 1996, i read of a
case in the newspapers, far too many hunters are "white trash". There were these two buddys who went hunting with an SKS, i suppose they bought one cause it's just about the cheapest rifle you could buy then at Roses dep't store(now out of business). They went looking for a deer, coun't find one, so they shot a cow out in a field for fun, killed the cow, then they shot at a 14 year old girl who was out riding her house, almost killing her in the precess. Her father heard the shooting and called the county sherriff and they were arrested, i think they got ten years in jail, they should have got more for being idiots. This may not be your typical hunter, but cases like this make the world THINK IT IS.

Helps that this was last week's biggest topic. Even bigger than HR1022.
