I think the process in Texas actually involves a Grand Jury...

I should find out for sure, huh?

Positive. You don't have to retreat in your own home.

I always do that when they do break in's in my house....Funny thing is that when I try to use the phone(cordless) it doesn't work because they've already ripped out the reciever....I gotta remember to get my cellphone instead? I can dial 911 faster than I can load my glock......Quick Re-DIAL baby....

Kudos to her for having the fortitude to defend herself. I hope she learns how to sleep at night... Knowing she did the only thing she could given the circumstances. It' s a powerful thing to take another person's life.
Someone posted the full tape in another thread here

And he's right......she was one the phone a long time before she actually shot the guy and it was along time after that when the LEOs finally arrived. w/o the gun who knows what would have happened to that lady.

If the guy was drunk/on drugs he could have just been whacked out of hi mind and thinking he was trying to get into his own house or some crazy stuff.....who knows.....the point is.....who knows what a crazy person would have done to her had he gotten his hands on her.

I think the tape is a great example in favor of why people need to have the right and the means to defend themselves.

That poor woman. I can't believe how calm she remained leading up to the shooting. Good on her.

I am glad she has a son and friends who are law enforcement. They should be able to help her through the trauma and help her to realize she did the right thing.

Unfortunately cops don't always prevent crime they just clean it up.

No, it doesn't. CA has similar laws.

Only really lacks the protection from civil suits.

Do the other states offer such protections?

Not all, but many. I don't know which all in particular, but I do know that TX Castle Law shields anybody who uses force in self defense from civil suits as well.

Right from Section 83.001, Civil Practice and Remedies Code: A defendant who uses force or deadly force that is justified under Chapter 9, Penal Code, is immune from civil liability for personal injury or death that results from the defendant's use of force or deadly force, as applicable.

Chapter 9 deals with lawful use of force.
