Wow... had a felon try to sell me stuff...

    Wow wow wow...

Im thinking I had a run in with either

    A) a REALLY dumb genuine felon with impeccable timing

    or

    B) some LEA undercover operative trying to get me to do something stupid

Basically I'm leaving blockbuster video. I had rented "CRANK" and "SWAT" so the guy probably could tell I might like guns.

I get out of the store with Mr. Q on my 6...

This dude randomly says (exact words) I got some hicap mags for an AK for sale if you know anyone looking. I also got some 35 and 50rd galil mags for sale. (And I actually do need 35s for some orders on here)

So Im starting to think, maybe I could get him to break them down to repair parts and I could use them as parts for the business. But still, something just seems weird in the back of my head, some random dude just hitting me up for AK or ANY gun ANYTHING is kinda weird and pegs my "BAD SITUATION" meter pretty hard...

So we're talking and I say, for you to legally sell them, you gotta break them down into parts or else its a felony for you and the buyer to transfer them as whole parts

Then he throws "the bombshell" on me.

He says, oh I don't give a s*** Im already a felon so why bother right? Right after that he starts to offer me a completed AK rifle and a galil buttsock.

I said lemme get yer name and number (and I got his license #!) and I'd get back to him.

So later, to cover my arse I call this dude on MY home telephone.

I plainly stated to him that IM not interested in dealing with a felon or his parts. He says "They're just parts man its no big deal on the stock or the parts kits they're not guns..."

    He even says
Come on man, who they hell is gonna know but me and you, and this is a NEW Galil parts kit, the stock is worth like $300 alone and Ill give it all to you for $150, including the mags oh and I got a couple 75rd chinese AK drums too
    So I reply back:
Under Sec 18 of the USC it is expressesely forbidden for a felon to be inpossesion of ANY firearm part, no matter how small or innocuous. If someone were to buy your parts they'd be an accessory after the fact... Which would get them their own felony...
He kept trying to push them on me, and I finally just said:
LOOK, Im not interested in your stuff. By your own admission you're a felon illegally in possession of firearm parts and firarms. Im not interested in losing my rights over a "good" deal on some parts I can get just about anywhere online LEGALLY.
I advised that he need to contact the local sheriff/PD and make a time that he can surrender the contraband which will allow him to destroy it legally and it will get off the street that way.

To which this guy replies "He11 no I aint turning it in, Im gonna sell that s*** and make some money!!!"

I posted this to let you guys know, there are people EVEYWHERE trolling to make you into a FELON, especially IMHO if you frequent a certain convtroversial CALI based gun board...

I HONESTLY THINK this guy was a working operative for some 3 letter LEA, or peharps one of those "give 3 go free" types who already got busted. How he got "onto me" I dunno, but it sure seems rather "lucky" doesn't it???

So watch your arses our there guys.... Now for any one on here thats LEO, what should I do with his info, pass it on to the local PD or just write it off as a learning experience and be glad I'm free cuz I don't break the law???

P.S. Ivan/Mods can we make this a sticky for a couple days.

Wow. Never has happened to me...if it does I would think it would be more than just coincidence.

Ya, unless you were sporting a "I love my ak47" bumper sticker, anyone coming out of nowhere and offering you a 75 round drum is pretty fishy.

This is one wierd and scary story. I have had poeple offer me contraband watches, computers, car parts, but never firearm parts. You did the right thing brother...watch your back! Not sure what I would do next, but I would seriously consider reporting the incodent to the athorities.

Oh lawd, I would've just declined immediately, taken his plate number down, and been done with it.

I'm going to have to agree with Sling and Smokin' on this one. Hope you have a CCW just in case you run into him again and SHTF.

That's a little too strange to be a coincidence...

There really are guys that dumb, it might have been on the level. Its best just to not have anything to do with people like that, undercover or not. he could just be out on bail for something and trolling for material to use to cut a deal. one of those 'Hey man, you cut me a break on this posession of pariphinalia charge and I can turn you onto a guy who's trying to score some AK's and highcap mags'

What are the chances of someone trying to sell you the type of mags you need/want for a gun that very few folks in a state of 35-40 million own. In a public place. You probably have better odds of winning the lottery. I don't buy that it's a coincidence.

Setup. I doubt the average perp would even know what a Galil is. AK sure, but not a Galil.

It seems as though he was really soliciting to you while you were going about your business.

If it was a undercover sting, at one point does it become illegal entrapment?

The only reason I called the dude back (blocked the # on the caller ID) was so IF it WAS some kinda LEO sting there is audio recording of me

                        A) Refusing his deal with the utmost of clarity.

                        B) Advising him that he is illegally in possession of said parts as a felon (in case he IS a stupid guy and doesn't know)

                        C) Advising him how to LEGALLY dispose of the guns/parts by calling the sheriff/LEO.

I didn't do anything wrong so I'm not worried. He doesn't know me from adam IF he IS a random (we weren't talking at my car, we were in the parking lot and after I talked to him I continued on past my car into another store, and then another and then left maybe 45 mins later)

Should I post this persons name in case he contacts other calgunners?

If he hadn't ID'd himself as a felon, and had the parts in-hand taunting me, that COULD border on entrapment.

The fact he went out of his way to ID himself as a FELON is what made my "SETUP" meter swing full peg.

Just so we're clear: what you described if done by a law enforcement officer or at the direction of one is clear entrapment. If done by Joe Citizen/Snitch on their own then it is not.

Still got the Number? Go to super pages and do a reverse lookup on the number, see if listed as a gov't number
