I happened to be at the Stevensons Ranch Walmart yesterday, to get catfood, of course. So as I was at the ammo counter I had a brief chat with a gentleman who was looking at the empty shells with the same dismay I imagine was on my face.
He mentioned that if AB962 were to be passed by the legislature, the shortage would only get worse. I'm sure you see the problem here - he didn't know that AB962 was already passed and was at the Governor's desk awaiting signature or veto. Of course, I informed him of this matter, and gave him the phone number to call the governor (which I conveniently have in my call log for some reason).
Which brings us to the title of this thread - the majority of gun owners aren't NRA members, they don't come to Calguns, they probably don't even buy from Cabelas over the Internet, so they don't get those alerts, either. They do buy ammunition from Walmart and other places though.
So, as a part of this outreach (and in the future), shouldn't we be leaving flyers at Walmart and other such places? I know we already have flyers, but I haven't seen them anywhere I go. We should be more proactive about it, and we shouldn't wait for Calguns Foundation or whoever else to provide us with those flyers.
In case of Walmart, I taped a message to the ammo counter as I left. It was probably removed quickly enough, but maybe someone can post it with manager's permission (I'm not going there anytime soon, as I can only go that far on weekends, and Walmarts here don't sell ammo). Of the three gun stores I visited recently, only one had the flyer.
Several people at work already made the call(s).
Let's be a bit more proactive about informing other people, for clearly they won't be informed by the media. If left to the media, well... Suffice it to say that one of the guys from work with whom I occasionally go shooting and who's been a gun owner for longer than I've lived was telling me about the "gun show loophole".
