You might ignore charges of racism but not the lefties.
If we ever appear to say "this gun law is racist but that's not the part we care about", we're going to be labeled racist.
The left already incorrectly identifies us as a group of old fat white men, suggesting that we exclude based on race. They try to project every evil on us, that's why we have to maintain a squeaky clean appearance.
We also have to demonstrate that the evils they try to project on us are the evils we are trying to fight.Comment

You are on the right track with race, we all have to live on this rock. but as to the history of 12031 you are not."One useless man is called a disgrace, two become a law firm, and three or more become a Congress."

First there was a group called the Deacons for Defense and Justice. They effectively and quietly used guns to create the security necessary for voter registration, school integrations, and protest marches in the deep south to succeed for the Civil Rights movement.
The Black Panthers specifically started copying the idea but decided to be in people's faces about it. Carrying a gun as a Panther in Oakland to keep a racist cop from killing you = a pretty wise idea at the time. Marching those loaded guns into the Capital = not such a good idea.
I think there are lots of folks rightly worried that UOCing in urban areas of California right now is closer to the Panthers than the Deacons. The Deacons won their political battle. I'd like us to win ours. The Panthers did not win their political battle.
The major difference here is that UOC can become LOC in CA easily - if only urban UOCers would have some patience.

Was it not passed in reaction to the Panthers showing up at the state capitol with everything from FN-FALs to M1-carbines? I submit the same result would have ensued had it been the KKK. Not a race issue, a second amendment issue.

Even if we were all old fat white men, do old fat white men not have a right to keep and bear arms? You might ignore charges of racism but not the lefties.

What you're describing is just racism from the left against whites, and sexism against men (almost exclusively white men)Comment

Ok point taken, but it was not the kkk but the Panthers, check your dates, it took two months to get 12031 into law."One useless man is called a disgrace, two become a law firm, and three or more become a Congress."

BAn on loaded carry, racial issues.
Gene, you are so right on this.First there was a group called the Deacons for Defense and Justice. They effectively and quietly used guns to create the security necessary for voter registration, school integrations, and protest marches in the deep south to succeed for the Civil Rights movement.

The ban on open carry was racially motivated because armed blacks scared the crap out of everyone else. The Watts riots happened only two years earlier.
The Black Panthers should have left their arms in their cars, but they didn't.
I don't know if the outcome would have been any different even if they did because many of the legislators at the time may been racists and in 1967, we didn't have a gun rights movement like we do today.
I was a child at the time, but from what I remember in my childhood, my parents and many others were afraid that between the civil rights issues, the Vietnam war and the protests, the counter culture, that the country would fall apart.
The media at the time of course was sensationalizing everything, fear was on the minds.
Most of the bad laws and policies we have today do have racist origins and in seeking to get back all of our rights, we should exploit that.
We didn't give the freedmen 40 acres and a mule, but that doesn't mean we still can't try.

Not exercising your rights for fear of losing them...
I know it's a lose the battle but win the war type of scenario we are seeking, but It still angers me that racist policies from decades ago are still in place and nobody in the legislature wishes to address it. Effing cowards.Comment
