    Bratton Leaving LAPD

    He's out. :

William J. Bratton is expected to announce plans to resign as chief of the Los Angeles Police Department today to take over as head of a private security firm, sources have told The Times.

Bratton is expected to announce his decision at a noon press conference today. He did not return several calls seeking comment. The decision by Bratton, who has dramatically reshaped the LAPD and pushed down crime rates since taking over in 2002, took the city's political and police leadership by surprise.

    Interesting.

Anyone know if he is being pushed out, or private security pays so well, he decided to leave?

I think we would be able to guess by the length of the transition period.
The shorter it is, the more likely he isn't leaving voluntarily.

Villaraicrap apparently didn't know. Sounds like he got a pay raise somewhere else.

The question is will he be replaced with someone as bad or worse.

They can have Sandy Hutchens back after she peels off the tar and feathers.

There was a recent showdown with the LA City Council over retired officers being able to use their LAPD uniforms while working as private security on movie sets. Bratton wanted to incorporate and monitor them under the auspices of the LAPD...the City Council wanted otherwise.

I guess he figured, H*** with you guys.

With all the budget problems the state has and they're taking funds from the cities, maybe he sees the writing on the wall. What does he he get for retirement in his current contract? I don't see it getting any better in the future.

Yep, and fat John McGinnis is retiring as Sheriff of Sacremento SO. Not seeking re-election this year.

Its a good time for Bratton to leave the LAPD. Future budget cuts, prisoner releases, the depression etc. will only mean an increase in crime. He leaves on a relatively high note instead of being run our of LA when crime increases.

Its also a time that private security companies should see an increase in business for the same reasons listed above. He should be in a position to earn a lot of money as the demand for private security increases.

While we may not like his politics, Bratton is a pretty shrewd character.

He's also very good at fighting crime, like it or not. LA will suffer due to him leaving. That's a fact. Hopefully, the new guy will apply the good parts of Bratton, and update the bad parts (i.e. CCW's)
