Front Sight Urges Yes Vote on CA CCW AB 357

    Dear tony ,

A bill which would change California law on CCW,
effectively making the state "Shall Issue" and removing the
arbitrary discretion of Sheriffs to withhold permits for
political reasons, AB 357, has been referred to the Public
Safety Committee. Please call and tell these people to VOTE
    YES for AB 357.

California - AB 357 - Call Now and urge to vote YES

    BILL NUMBER: AB 357 INTRODUCED

    BILL TEXT

    INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Knight

    FEBRUARY 19, 2009

An act to amend Section 12050 of the Penal Code,
    relating to firearms.

    LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

AB 357, as introduced, Knight. Firearms: license to
    carry concealed firearm.

Existing law authorizes the sheriff of a county, upon
proof that the person applying is of good moral
character, that good cause exists, and that the person
applying satisfies any one of certain conditions, as
specified, to issue a license for the person to carry a
    concealed handgun, as specified.

This bill would delete the good cause requirement, and
require the sheriff to issue the license if the other
    criteria described above are met.

By imposing additional duties on local law enforcement
agencies, this bill would impose a state-mandated local
    program.

The California Constitution requires the state to
reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain
costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions
establish procedures for making that reimbursement.

This bill would provide that, if the Commission on
State Mandates determines that the bill contains costs
mandated by the state, reimbursement for those costs
shall be made pursuant to these statutory provisions.

The Shall Issue bill, AB 357, has been referred to the
Public Safety Committee. Please call and tell these people
to VOTE YES for AB 357.

So, do we send letters to the people on the Public Safety Committee, or do we send letters to our local representatives or both?
The laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants. They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. - Thomas Jefferson

Welcome to Calguns. Right now, focus on the PSC, as they are ones voting on whether to bring it in front of the assembly. But contacting your reps won't hurt either.

              Both, please.

Note also the 'main' thread on 357 is

And, while 357 is really the only one, so far, with any action possible, there are more bills to watch. See

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

                Yes.

Write to everyone on the Public Safety Committee and write to your rep. Doesn't hurt to send a "thank you" to Steve Knight (the author of it) also.

Calling is also good. Sending emails is not good; it's not a substitute for letters and / or calls.
