Ok, so there's the story.

Active duty sailor, monterey, CA.

I have a beretta 92fs, want my >10 rd mags out here.
I have a Panther Arms AP4 ar15

I am an NRA pistol instructor, looking to do the CA pistol safety instructor program.

1. Who should be my point of contact to start an Assault Weapons permit for the extended pistol mags and M4/ar15?
1.5 Can they be on the same form... where do I get the form?
2. Can I do the AW permit and CA instructor through the same office?
3. Does all this (plus being a cleared mil Counterterrorism specialist for a day job) go above and beyond the "reasonable cause" to apply for a CCW

You can bring you mags here in Ca just as long it doesn't hold more then 10rnds..

For the AR, put a BB on it..

What county are you in? CCWs are issued by the county sheriff in most cases (some police chiefs) and they choose what is good cause. Some will issue for anyone who feels the need for self protection while others simply don't issue for anyone other than ex-DA's, judges or other personal friends or celebrities.

As for the assault weapons I am fairly sure that you can get your weapons permitted if you are a permanent resident of a different state stationed in CA on active duty. If you are a California resident; basically you're screwed.

edit: the high capacity magazines are not considered AWs and there is no exemption for military. If you disassemble them you MAY possess them but unless it is your duty weapon you cannot have the high caps assembled in this fine state.

i thought detachable mags of more than 10 rounds was one of the major qualifiers of an "assault weapon" as per CA law.

None of my mags are less than 10, except 92fs stuff I've purchased since arriving.

I am considering the AW permit purely because the $73 permit is still less than the cost of an off-list lower.

besides, I can accurately reproduce a milspec gun qual unless the mags hold more than 10 rounds. so, if they are AW's, shouldn't that give me the option of having hi-cap mags?

The high cap magazine law is separate from the assault weapon law. You cannot bring any assembled high cap magazines into California. The only high cap magazines allowed in California are either on gov't owned issue weapons, law enforcement officer weapons or they had to be in the state before the high cap law went into effect.

As to putting a BB on your rifle, it sounds like you have a listed receiver which requires a permit regardless of the BB.

Also, it is a non-detachable mag of greater than 10 rds. that makes any center fire rifle into an assault weapon: 12276.1 (a)(2)

Will she be able to bring it on a plane with her, if I'm the one with the permit?

No chance for a CCW in Monterey County. There are only about 110 permits in the whole county and just about all are LEOs or retired LEOs. Probably a good reason why there is so much gang activity in Salinas.

That's a separate issue. Per TSA regulations, the firearm must be in a unloaded, declared to the ticket agent, and in a locked case. Doesn't matter who has the permit.

Contact the airline she is flying on, they usually have their own policy on top of TSA.

I travel with my AR and pistols all the time, no issues, ever.
