California should drop certified handgun roster

An opinion piece that I caught in this morning's Daily News. Good read.

It is the opinion of most California gun owners that the state government intends to eradicate private handgun ownership in the state by making handguns illegal, making handguns expensive or by mak…

I must say though, the 'drop' in the title is a nice touch.

it was written by someone in the nra and will therefore be totally ignored by anyone that doesnt already agree with the sentiment in the article. doesnt matter if its all fact a lot of people in CA want private handgun ownership eradicated.
Just a libertarian guy in a Leftist Authoritarian state.

Not the majority of Californians though. Not just basing that on the proposition to do precisely that (pre-Heller) being soundly defeated, but also based on polls that has shown less support, not more, for banning handgun ownership

The majority will support stupid measures precisely because they don't care that much and are woefully misunderstanding what these laws do, let alone how effective they are

Around what, 5% of Washintonians voted both for 594 and 591, despite them being the opposite? And 10% of Californians voted for Leland Yee after he dropped out (in a just world they would all be heckled and scorned and never allowed to vote again... but unfortunately hard to have secret ballots and do that)

I could go along with a lot of intrusive Govt restrictions on products to keep people (including very dumb) from getting hurt.

But the Roster is clearly an abuse of the wide ranging and heavy handed power granted to Govt to keep bad, dangerous products from consumers.

Thus, it serves to undermine those Do-Gooders working for "Good Govt".

Next time a well meaning person proposes a new restriction on a possibly (or proven) dangerous product, any honest civic minded person must now ask "Is this gonna turn into what the Roster became? Some sneaky Back Door means to push some unConstitutional hidden agenda?"

Then a good new law might not get passed, because now people can't trust the Govt, so little American kids will unknowingly play with toxin soaked Teddy Bears from China, and get sick and die painful deaths.

Wont someone think of the children?

Just out of curiosity, what are the rates of accidents from all those SSE non-Roster loop holed guns?

Of course, I know it will be lower than "over the counter" Roster guns because it will be a guys 'special' gun.

I'm guessing the number of accidents that could be contributed to off Roster lack of Roster required features will be a big Zero, even in a massive state like CA, even after all these years.

Likewise, you could visit every hospital in the world and not find two things: The Tooth Fairy, and any patient suffering from MJ caused illness.

When you learned in school about how some old (or even contemporary) society supposedly believe the silliest things that made them pass the strangest laws, and you wonder "WTF? They seemed to be able read and write, farm, build ships, etc, how can that jibe with being so dumb in other major areas???"...... this is it. OK, its one of at least a dozen we do and 'believe' today.

Am I missing the point of this? Because every firearm owner would say "duh?" and non firearm owners are likely to not give a hoot.

The roster is all about power to control the people, disarm the populace, and garner fees from the gun manufacturers to pay for it.

The Constitution has become toilet paper to politicians not only here in kommiefornia and other states, but our executive branch of the federal government as well.

Obviosly, the only thing responsible for kids getting hold of guns and shooting someone else or them self is parents who illegally fail to secure their gun against irresponsible kids.

This is already a felony. "Better not hold people personally responsible, and force them to have so little freedom to make a mistake" is a horrible policy, and we'd be well served to fire amd imprison all politicians if abuse of freedom is worse than freedom.

Actually, Marijuana caused illness is rampant in hospitals. People smoke too much, or take edibles, and flip the hell out. This is probably something hospitals see weekly, if not daily, and I have personally seen two people in one weekend go to the hospital for edible weed just from one event.

Obviously marijuana related deaths are almost nonexistent, and not caused directly by it. Also obviously, alcohol is worse for everyone - and I like to drink.
Hunting is a loophole in the 2nd Amendment to the Bill of Rights.

There is no privilege to keep and bear arms.

Arms are for killing people. All other uses of an arm are illegitimate uses.

Yep, I am now one of Nevada's newest residents! Don't have much use for black rifles, but I think I'll go buy one just because I can. Perhaps I'll hang it above the fireplace as a reminder I am no longer in CA. I also enjoy a decent pay raise since they don't deduct state income tax from my retirement, my vehicle registration is a fraction of what it was in CA and sales tax is 1.5-2% lower. All this bragging is making me hungry, think I'll hit one of the free buffets before I go gun shopping. :-)

                      "Rampant" Hardly.

Yeah, I've heard of that. Knew a girl who didn't believe the cookies were "pot brownies" ate some, then a bunch more. LOL. What is treatment? Nothing...not worth gut pump by that time. Risks? None

Don't it give "munchies" from drop in blood sugar, yet this has no danger for diabetics etc??? Amazing. Now Coca-Cola on the other hand, and other foods served in SCHOOL LUNCHES......

I'm still waiting for someone, anyone, to offer a reasoned, cogent explanation as to why a handgun, legal & safe to be sold in 48 other states, is magically unsafe because we happen to be in CA. That is impossible. The roster is the biggest, steaming pile of bull sh#t law ever. I despise it with every fiber of my being

it has nothing to do with safety or anything close to it. it is an incremental ban period. the author knew it when he wrote it.

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.

Even better... The guns we are allowed to buy are "not unsafe" but on the bottom shelf of most showcases you see a bunch of Gen 4 Glocks and XDm's which law enforcement IS allowed to buy.

In other words... Law enforcement may use unsafe guns in the line of duty.

I'm totally opposed to the roster, and magazine capacity limits, but what is good for the goose... you get the idea. They should have 10 rd mags and use only what's on the roster.

It's the same reason why us Californians are not allowed to own std cap mags, suppressors, SBR's etc, etc...
