    MRE date code

I found some for sale. The seller is confused about the date, he claims it's marked " 1215". According so the site that could be the package date ? So 2012, Jan?

Or the inspection date 12/15 which means three years after they were made meaning their expired.? 2009 3 years prior.

"Sometimes you'll have a nice date packed such "03/09/01" which you know to mean March 9, 2001. However, some cases will use a different form such as "1068". In this case, the first number "1" stands for the year (2001) and the next three numbers indicate which day of the year (365 days in a year) it was packed. So "068" would be day 68 of the year 2001...or March 9, 2001."

That's what's called a Julian date and the year portion repeats every 10 years so something packed in 2011 would have the same date code.

      Thanks Steve,

I asked him if that was the inspection or the package one. Via text, now he wont respond lol.

Inspection dates are listed as MM/YYYY. The date 4 digit date codes are date of manufacture or package date.

In this case, 1215 means it was packaged on the 215th day of 2011.
