How about $25.00 an ounce for silver. Sound crazy? A little high. I just bought one of these sets for $22 an ounce. Why not...they have a face value of $20 per coin (Canadian) so they are not going below that. Silver goes to $11 I still got $20. Silver goes to $8 I still have $20. Dollar deflates I still have $20 per coin. Oh and if we get that mythical rapid / hyper inflation fuky gurus always say is coming I have an ounce of silver to pace it.

This is my Go To coin.
$22 to $25 for something worth between $16.10 in silver or $16.20 in cash?

I noticed the daily deals on Ebay occur when the PM markets are dropping. Picked up some 1oz gold Canadian Maple Leaf's for $1,200 or $20 over spot. 1 oz Silver American Eagle's were at or around $18. Monster boxes were more expensive a few days ago, but whatever it's not something that I'm planning to trade anyways. Don't really care about the daily or monthly swings. Long term at least it won't vaporize

            Disagree

Sorry but in SHTF it is prepared people that survive. And the they get it. When it comes to trade, money, etc the people holding out a debit card won't be around long. Their fate will be on FEMA. The balance will be more intelligent.

JP Morgoon and the swindlers of the world own the Silver market. China, India, Russia and Fuky Guru own the Gold market and will not let the swindlers in now. We pawn'd them of their goods.....They now only have worthless paper.

IMO one should not rest entirely on Silver, 1/10 oz. of Gold are cheap considering you have the most precious metal mankind has ever known.

When you see 100 to 1 as I've predicted you may change your tune?

$1,200 for a Maple seems like a good deal. I've never bought over the internet or Ebay but just checking it out now Eagles are selling for a BIG premium, like $90 over spot for 1 oz. and it gets even steeper in fractional.

I'm glad today, that's all I'm sitting on. Wowsa....

Be patient I say, end of month again and options expiration.

Gold price was hammered hard this morning with a huge paper sell that really didn't have the effect they were hoping for I bet.

Gold price imo is tighter than a garage door spring and as soon as we get thru this low and as many weak hands they can steal from is done....

The reason they charge a big premium over spot is that they have to use PayPal as a payment mechanism, and offer free shipping. So, their regular prices are higher than if you went to their site directly and wired funds to them.

If you search for deals, you'll often find Eagles at about $25 over spot, and Maples at $20 over spot from very reputable dealers. The catch is that they limit you to five units - forever. So, when you buy, make sure it's the deal you really want.

As I've mentioned before, the eBay deals are fantastic if you have a cash-back credit card linked to your PayPal account. Say you get a Maple at $1200 (about $20 over spot) and you have a 2% cash-back card. Your net cost is actually $1176 after the cash-back, and I don't think you can find a better deal than that anywhere. You're getting Government issued coins at spot and sometimes below - who could ask for a better deal than that?

That's why I don't purchase PMs for post-SHTF barter system. However if that was my plan I agree with Ripon83, for the most part the people that do survive would understand what a pre 64 coin is. If someone doesn't, they are likely going to think 1oz eagles are a scam too since they clearly say $1 on the back.

IMO if SHTF occurred, it would take a very very very long time before a monetary currency is adequate trade.
I think barter will quickly take place among neighbors and small communities for food/clothing/gear/tools/etc but most people won't want to trade for PMs until way down the line when the survivors are near 100% self-sufficient.

                        Just my 2c.

                          Now Hiring

I think the most likely place for PM barter to start is when someone with it wants to hire out a job to someone with out it.

I think we'll see two phases of PM value. The first will be when people are looking for a safe haven store of value as fiat currency loses its luster. The second phase, albeit unlikely, will be when the house of cards comes crashing down. When the dust settles, people will need a recognized currency medium to get the goods and services they need to keep going.
